Unable to upgrade company file

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping there is someone out there that can help me?

I am trying to upgrade a Business Basics company file to the new Account Right Basics but it won't let me. When I choose the company file I want to upgrade it gives me an error saying "The file you selected can't be upgraded. Please select an MYOB BusinessBasics company file". Even though the file I have selected is actually a Business basics file. I have done the same thing with two other company files and it has worked perfectly, so I'm not sure what to do??? :smileysad:

Your help will be much appreciated,

Thanks,

Stacey :smileyhappy:

Re: Unable to upgrade company file

Hi Stacey,

The BusinessBasics company file you are attempting to upgrade has the file extension .DAT instead of .dat, for example Companyfile.DAT instead of Companyfile.dat

  1. This is what you need to do:-
  2. Click OK to the error message and exit from AccountRight Basics.
  3. Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Windows Start button and choosing Explore (or Open Windows Explorer).
  4. Locate the BusinessBasics company file you are trying to upgrade. By default this will be in C:\BBasics1
  5. Right-click the company file and choose Rename.
  6. Change the file extension from .DAT to .dat
  7. Repeat the Upgrade tasks.

Re: Unable to upgrade company file

Hopefully this is straight forward.

Is anyone able to tell me how to change the file extension from .DAT to .dat? I can rename the actual file but there isnt an option to rename the extension.

Re: Unable to upgrade company file

If you are using Windows Explorer, the default view is to hide the extension for known file types. You may need to change this setting.

In Windows 7, while viewing your folder, go to Tools, Options, View (tab), and look for "Hide file extension...", and untick this option.

In Windows XP select Tools, Folder Options, View tab.
