activating company files

Hi,

I'm a novice user of MYOB. The community, not-for-profit group I belong to has purchased Account Right Basics for me, the new (and novice) treasurer. Accounts have previously been kept on a much older version of MYOB on a now dead computer and we are starting afresh with new laptop and software.  I have run into trouble trying to activate a second company account - we have 3 bank accts (for different activities) and i want to have 3 separate company accounts.  The system tells me I can only activate (without cost) the number of accounts permitted by my software license.  I've read the license and it doesn't specify how many company accounts i can activate.

Where can I find this information please???

tia,

frustrated novice ;-)

Re: activating company files

Hi

MYOB only give you one file activation with AccountRight Basics, you can purchase more from them.  As you have an old MYOB registration you can upgrade from that product to the current version.  This will probably give you a 5 file licence.  If you contact MYOB with your old details and explain that you bought Basics in error they may give you a credit for that purchase towards the cost of the upgrade.  If you still have any old files they can be upgraded to the new version.

Re: activating company files

Thanks Clive,

It sounds as if I the Guild may have to purchase extra company files, as the 'old' registration was really a member using his small business accounting system to keep the guild's books when we first started.  This new purchase of AccountRight Basics is, in effect, a band new registration.

The software licence and information give no hint that one can have only a single company file - I feel quite strongly that this is a serious omission of information!

Re: activating company files

Hi

When MYOB moved to the new version of AccountRight Basics and the 2011 range of software they reduced the number of files that could be activated for free from 5 to 1.  You could express your dissatisfaction to MYOB but it is unlikely they will change as Bain, the new owners, need to get back some of the $1.3 billion they paid for the company.

Re: activating company files

Thanks Clive, that explains why my mentor (past treasurer who had very old software) is baffled by the problem!

Re: activating company files

Hi Tia, to get around your problem without the cost of purchasing extra licenses you may be able to run all 3 bank accounts in one company file. If you look into the use of jobs and / or categories they may suit your needs.
