We are moving to Bateman and told that it's HFC nbn zone. If static IP is required for MYOB AE, we have to use Telstra or Optus which is quite a bit more expensive. Otherwise we can use iinet or other nbn providers. Any idea please?

Hi @mchow
Thanks for the question!
In order to use the my.myob logins, and live services such as Assets Live, and the portal, you won't need to have a static IP address on your internet connection with your ISP.
We do recommend that your server on your internal network has a static IP address though - otherwise SQL server and DNS resolution (name to IP address) can get a bit messy. SQL Server sets itself to listen for SQL requests on an IP address, and the MYOB products use names (such as \\SERVER01\) to connect to various servers. So if these aren't working, it can cause unpredictable results.
But for your external connection, there is no need to pay for a static IP address (unless you are running other services such as Web Servers that require it).

Hi Matt, thanks for your reply.
Sorry for my ignorance...when you say "We do recommend that your server on your internal network has a static IP address", "But for your external connection, there is no need to pay for a static IP address", i get confused.
We don't run other services such as web servers. We run a small tax agent business using MYOB AE (for 2 users), and we use excel, word, internet, outlook, gmail, etc. Do these form an internal network? If so, does that mean we need a static IP address?

Hi @mchow
In short, the computer in your office that runs the MYOB software (where the SQL server is installed) should have a static IP address.
This means that your other workstation(s) are able to find it on your network.
You will have some form of network set up if you have two computers sharing files, and using the same internet connection at the same time.

Thanks Matt, getting there...
If we have a 3rd party IT provider to host our MYOB AE and we access it through the internet, then we don't need a static IP address in our home office then. Is that correct?

Hi @mchow
providing that the IP Address that the cloud hosting provider is using does not change, then you are all set.
You will not need a static IP address on your home-office internet connection.

Is that reasonable to assume the IP Address that the cloud hosting provider is using does not change, given that they should know what they are doing (as an MYOB hosting provider)?
As a user, I won't have control on whether the IP Address that the cloud hosting provider is using change or not, right?

it is not common for hosting providers to change the external IP addresses of their servers.
In terms of what control you have regarding anything related to your cloud hosting setup, you would need to talk with your hosting provider for this.
