PLS Reporting

Have started using PLS for lodgement of our tax returns and can't see where we can print validation/transmission reports like we could when using ELS. Also, we had a validation error with a couple of returns and now its remebering these. Can the log be cleared ?

Regards

In MYOB Tax when using PLS to lodge you may wish to print a PLS validation report.

There are few ways a PLS validation report can be printed, they are:

  • Lodgment Manager homepage.
    H
ighlight the return in question and select Print Validation Report from the Tasks bar under Tax Return.

  • AE Tax Client Search.
Select PLS reports under the Tasks navigation bar under Lodgment.

  • In Tax.
Open Tax select Lodgment > Electronic > PLS reports.

Re: PLS Reporting

My question is, when printing an ELS validation report, it printed every return lodged on the one report.

With the PLS report it prints a different page for every return lodged.

Is there a way to only have to print one report, rather than 20 pages if I lodge 20 returns.

Re: PLS Reporting

Hi @Kernan

Thanks for the question.

Unfortunately, that is not currently possible.

With ELS, returns lodged together are processed as a batch and a single "transmission" report is generated by the ATO for the returns submitted (ie: submit 10 returns, is generates a single transmission report for these 10 returns)

However, with PLS, even though you queue 10 (for example) returns together, the ATO process these all as individual transactions, and as such there is no combination of returns.

We are looking at ways we can make this process easier, and potentially combine to produce a "transmission report" like what was done via ELS - however, I cannot advise when this might be possible.

Re: PLS Reporting

Hi @CommonCents,

We've been through this with all of our clients and the first quest I always ask is, why are you printing validation reports? Stay with me and I'll explain:

The ATOs ELS system can receive batch lodgements, that is a single lodgement with multiple returns. Hence, it will provide a single validation report with multiple returns on it. This system is also limited to a single user lodging at once and performs minimal validation on the return data during lodgement.

PLS works a little differently. It lodges each individual return at a time and therefore produces a single validation per lodgement. PLS also performs additional validation checks on each return. PLS uses a queuing system, so anyone can send a return to the lodgement queue at any time (providing they have permission to do so). In short, yes you will need to print 20 pages for 20 lodgements, but back to my original question; why do you need to do so?

The validation reports are accessible through several different methods, at any time:

1. From the Lodgement Manager home screen, highlight the return and then select "Print Validation Report" from the menu option on the left.

2. From either Tax or Tax Administration you can select Lodgement -> Electronic -> PLS Reports. This will let you select multiple PLS reports and the print one after the other. This will be a lot quicker than individually opening and printing each one.

3. From within a return itself, you can select the Validation Report icon from the top right menu to view it.

As the validation reports are available at all times through different methods, we have been helping our clients let go of the need to always print validation reports. I should also mention, this change is on the ATO side not MYOB.

I realise this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but in this day and age I think it is important to question the need to always print things.

Re: PLS Reporting

Thanks Matt, another question on PLS. We are getting the following error message when trying to lodge 1 particular I tax return:

MYOB.stor.desktop.lodgement.lodgementengine+<Run> d_83:MoveNext:",hexadecimal value )x1F, is an invalid character.Line 1 position 1

This pops up inside the PLS balloon down the bottom right of my screen. The tax return itself has been validated through AO and I can't see anything obviously wrong with it.

I would appreciate if you could look into this for me.

Regards

Mark

Re: PLS Reporting

Hi @Kernan

We have seen this a few times recently, but most commonly with AUSkey lodgements - are you using AUSKey to do lodgements?

It has only started occuring since a few changes where made at the ATO and we are working with the ATO to understand why.

The return you were lodging should show as lodged within the ATO portal - please confirm.

Re: PLS Reporting

Hi Mat

I have 3 amended I tax returns I am trying to lodge as well dated 2011,2013 & 2014. The 2011 one tells me that it needs the latest version of tax (we have 2016.3 which should be the latest) while the 2013 & 2014 just reject with no error message I can see. Do you have any suggestions ? I have logged onto the ato portal and I can't see them as lodged.

Thanks again

Mark
