P&L comparison reports

Hi there,

I need some help please.  My boss wants a P&L comparison between the 2009 FY & 2010 FY but our MYOB database hasn't been rolled over yet from the 2009 FY.  I recently took over from the previous accounts person & I'm waiting on final data from the accountant before starting a new financial year.  Even then, the new year I'll be starting is the 2010 FY, pending the lodgement of that year's tax return.  I've had confirmation from our accountant that not only will I be able to start a new year sometime this week, but lodgement of 2010 return will be expedient, enabling me to rollover to the current financial year by the end of September.

That's all well & good.  However, my boss has asked me for a report that I believe MYOB cannot generate.  The 'Last Year Analysis' would be great if we'd already rolled over 2009 FY, but since that's not an option at this time, what can I do to produce the report my boss wants?

She insists it must be possible to get the information in a single report from MYOB, but I disagree.  I've told her that the information she wants as a single report will not be available until we roll over to 2010 FY.  In the meantime, I've offered to create an Excel report using the standard P&L reports for 2009 & 2010 FY separately.  She's not interested in me "wasting time with that when MYOB should be able to provide the information".

Who is right?  I'm done arguing & am now starting to doubt my own knowledge of MYOB.  She's getting frustrated with me.  Am I missing something?

Sorry to be so longwinded, but I wanted to give enough information for an informed reply.  I hope to hear back soon.

Re: P&L comparison reports

Hi

There is a free solution at http://www.accountingpower.com.au that will solve all this for you - Its called 'The Official Reporting BluePrint Solution'.

It will allow you to get the report you require for future years without the need for you to roll over - and if its not quite what you require its easy enough to modify the report (You'll also get some videos to show you how its all done).

You can even create your own reports with it from scatch if you want if you want something totally different...

Re: P&L comparison reports

Hi Matthew,

Oh my gosh!!!  I've downloaded the software, watched the training video & explored the various report options. SO helpful!!  This is exactly what my boss needs.   Thank you also for your very prompt, professional & thoughtful follow-up call today.  Not only did you solve a slight glitch I had with one of the reports but you restored my confidence in my own knowledge of MYOB software.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Warm regards,
