Set up new client on AR 2011 for the first time user of MYOB

I am about to embark on setting up this new client (first time for them on MYOB) on AR Plus 2011,  Version Pack 3,  any tips to reassure me that I am not in hot water would help.

Re: Set up new client on AR 2011 for the first time user of MYOB

I have been a promoter of MYOB for a long time,  and I am aware of all the questioning on the new versions, just not willing to give up on it yet,

My question which maybe I was not precise enough is -  if anyone has set up a new data file from scrateh on this new AR Plus 2011?

I look forward to the challenge and was seeking some positives regards this process.

Re: Set up new client on AR 2011 for the first time user of MYOB

Christine, service pack 4 is going to be released any time now, and we are assured that it will include a lot of fixes, and provide many performance improvements. I urge you not to do anything with SP3 version, except read what was fixed, and study and test the SP4 version very carefully, before deciding to implement it for your client. Implementing 19.6 would be a very sensible step; you can get the client going, in a known safe environment, and then when you are satisfied that the new program is right, they can be upgraded.

The only negative is that 19.6 has such good performance (on the same workstation) that you will have to manage the client's expectations for Ar2011, and note that there are a few unresolved upgrading issues, such as receipted orders not yet billed (will prevent an upgrade). It depends exactly what functions your client uses.

Mike,

I know you are a good supporter of MYOB and give regular assistance to users.

I'd just like to compliment you on a very sensible and balanced reply. Incidentally I've read elsewhere that you've said SP4 is due shortly. Obviously you have some information from MYOB but I've not read anything from the Admin staff on a release date. Due you have any rough estimate of when it might be issued?

Re: Set up new client on AR 2011 for the first time user of MYOB

Mike,  thanks for your advice,  which in my own mind I definitely agree,  but the issue would be that this client now would have to go buy Premier V19.6 at what $1400 or so and I do not think they will be too pleased about that.

As this is a new data file,  my thinking was I would have no upgrade issues and just wanted to know if anyone out there has set up a new data file without too much problem.

Re: Set up new client on AR 2011 for the first time user of MYOB

You indicated they have bought AR Plus 2011, not Premier. You can obtain a "downgrade" from MYOB if you contact them, at no charge, and MYOB have indicated that 19.6 will be upgraded for the July tax changes. Of course, Pemier is not available in AR2011 yet.

The risk with adopting AR2011 before it is ready is that you will experience a degree of unrecoverable time, or lose the client, or anywhere in between.

boba, I only know that SP4 is coming very soon - I am a member of the NZ partner advisory group, and that's all we know.

Hi boba,

there was always going to be a SP4, SP5, SP6, SP7.............. My opinion is that it will be atleast SP9-10 before AR 2011 will be sufficiently stable to start using it.

Not a PAG member myself but the info I have is that SP4  is not far off.

Christine, I agree entirely with Mikes advice, set your client up on 19.6 & don't upgrade until you hear people like myself who have been rightfully very critical of AR2011 & myob's management of the redevelopment shouting from the ceilings that we finally have a stable product from MYOB.

Cheers

Gaz, I know it's your personal opinion, but looking ahead like that is no more than unwarranted speculation. Let's just see what SP4 will achieve.

Re: Set up new client on AR 2011 for the first time user of MYOB

I really appreciate all your advice,  and I am going with the majority rule and advise client to start with AR plus pre AR2011 ,  not too sure how they will react,  I have already alerted them to the fact there is some WIP and it was their decision.  As I came in after they bought  off the shelf  I really had no input to their decision making.  It is disappointing that MYOB themselves do not put some alert that they will look after customers and give them full facts and advise them how hard they are working to get it correct. Trying to work with a product not up to par, is bad for my business and bad for MYOB reputation, which has been excellent for years up to now.  Would make for good PR and help to keep me remaining positive that it will be an excellent product in the long run, just maybe out tooooooooo  early. If they go ahead and downgrade what is the future, safe for one year, then upgrade, the question I will get is how sure am I directing them in this way.-  To be honest I am not too sure. I remain positive and loyal to MYOB and will promote it and be patient. Thank you all once again.

Re: Set up new client on AR 2011 for the first time user of MYOB

I think it's a wise choice - I have set up several clients this year - some also who had already bought the product from a retail store. All had no qualms about going back a version and holding off till the bugs are fixed - they appreciated the frank advice and the saving of any heartache and stress. I'm with Mike - I won't be doing anything until after SP4 and even then it will have to prove itself before I go near it - or advise my clients to.
