Live Linking of Files

We do not link MYOB Business ledgers to our clients in AO due to concerns about clients making changes to the data after we’ve prepared BAS/accounts/tax returns.  Also, should a client cancel their subscription or go to another accountant (usually without warning) we lose access to their data and therefore all historical information for that client.

Will this issue be duplicated by linking MYOB Business to MYOB Practise BAS?  Or will there be safeguards in place? (and don't say "set a lock date", that's way too easy for a client to find and unlock)

      Hello Priya

Thanks for the response, however it is not duplication of ledgers we are concerned about but a duplication of the issue of "corrupted" historical data should the client alter their ledger after we have used it to prepare the BAS or a complete loss of historical data should the client cancel their subscription or change accountants and we lose access to the ledger.

      Hi MelanieNATS

Apologies for the confusion earlier and thank you for explaining. In MYOB Practice, once you've imported data into an activity statement and approved it, the statement becomes locked, preventing further changes. If you want to make updates, you must unlock the statement by selecting "Send for rework" and then manually click the "Import from ledger" button. The data doesn't update in real time. Therefore, you don't need to worry about clients altering data after you've finalized the BAS.

Additionally, if a client cancels their subscription, it only breaks your access to the file. The client contact, their activity statements, and the data within them will remain intact.

I hope this clarifies things for you. 😊

      Cheers

Thanks for the extra information, Priya

So should a client alter their data file or we lose access to it altogether we would still be able to drill in to the information used by us to prepare the BAS?  Or would it be recommended to pull a GST Detail report out of the data file to save in our workpapers when preparing the BAS?

As mentioned before, our concern is losing access to historical transactions.
