Logged out of payroll and did back up. Tried to log back in to reprint report but am getting system error message. Error 1976/Cannot resolve backlink. Prpgram section: savetomemory (line 107). Current object -4TUONH745. Advice much appreciated

An Error 1976 in NZ Payroll is really easy to fix; it does involve you having to delete a couple of files on your computer and then restoring your most recent backup. Our help article, Unable to open Payroll, or errors “1976” or “114” does outline this process and the steps required to resolve it.

thanks - payroll files are stored under program files (x86)/MYOB - but when I go into that folder there is no payroll dated todays date - do you mean I should remove the application file which is called payroll and has the green payroll icon (dated 27/4/16) - so should I delete that whole application file? Also there are no Data folders ... so should I just delete that application file and then go throught the restore from back up process? thanks for your help!
To resolve an Error 1976, you don’t need to delete your Payroll application as you will then need to manually uninstall all aspects of the program which can be very difficult and we do not recommend doing that. The files you are looking for are the payroll saved datafiles which may not be stored in the same location as the payroll program files.
If you cannot see the Payroll 1 folder under the program files folder, then the other location that the files will likely be in the location - C:\Users\Public\Data\MYOB\Payroll. This is one of the default locations for where your payroll company file is stored, and where you will need to go when resolving this error.
You will know you have found the right location because there will be three files named CADATA with different extension in the same location as your Payroll 1 folder just as you can see in the screenshot below.
Once you have located the CADATA files then one of the Payroll folders will be the saved payroll company file, which is what the help article refers to withy regard to the Payrioll folder that you have to delete/cut and paste to the desktop befopre you delete the different files mentioned in the help article
