MYOB Business Basics and Updates

I am soooo confused.

I have Business Basics.

According to my software (Help - About -)  I have Version 1.0 Release 6.o.oD)

According to MYOB Download system (and staff) it tells me I have Version 1.1 according to my serial number

Version 1.1 is compatible with Windows 7

I tried many times, based on MYOB's advice that I had the latest version,  to install on Windows 7 and was never able to do so.

Receiving an answer from MYOB on this issue has been unbelieveably difficult. I finally received an answer today that I can buy v1.1 and export my data from V1.0 and import it into v 1.1

Another community forum member was told by a consultant here on this forum that there is no way to get data from V1 to V1.1.

So, I am confused.

  • Do I have Version 1 or 1.1?... (I suspect I have  v1)
  • If I buy a new package of Version 1.1, will it work on Windows 7? ( I suspct it will)
  • If it does, will I be able to get my data from V1 to V1.1? (50-50 bet at this point)
  • If it doesn't will MYOB refund me? (probably not I suspect but I'd be happy if they did)
  • To find out these answers do I need to buy the MYOB Cover???

MYOB ... this should not be this hard.

Is anyone able to confirm for me that they have

- bought MYOB BB v1.1 and successfully

- installed on Win7

- and successfully migrated their data across from v 1.0?

I'd really appreciate confirmation if you have.

Thank you.

Re: MYOB Business Basics and Updates

Hi

I can confirm V1.1 will run on Window 7.

I believe V1 won't install on Windows 7, but have you tried loading it in compatability mode?

Computer Control Panel>System & Security>Find & fix problems>Run Programs made for previous versions. Select next

When the list of programs appears select "Not Listed" then hit next. You will now have the  "Enter the program location".

Insert your MYOB disc which has the V1 on it.

Browse for the exe file.  eg F:/setup.exe  (Try recommended settings)

If not choose Troubleshoot Program>Select the program worked in earlier versions of windows>Select Window XP - Start the program

You should be able to run it in Windows XP compatibility mode.

Once installed the program should work.

Fingers crossed, I have not had to try this before but it should work.

Re: MYOB Business Basics and Updates

[ Edited ]

Hi Melanie

6.0.0D is v1.0

6.3 is v1.1

Version 1.0 will not work on Windows 7, it won't even install.

Data from 1.0 will not transfer into 1.1

  1. Sounds like you have version 1.0
  2. Yes 1.1 will work on WIndows 7
  3. No you will not be able to use the same data or file
  4. No MYOB will not refund you as 1.0 has been out for quite a while and 1.1 was created to be compatible with Windows 7 and it is user choice to use Windows 7. If your original registration date is within the last three months you do qualify for Buyer Protection. That will provide you with the new software free of charge.
  5. No you do not need cover for questions of this type, only technical support questions.

Re: MYOB Business Basics and Updates

Thanks, Cathie.

I didn't know anout capability mode but will give that a shot.

That may save some angst if it works.

Cheers

Re: MYOB Business Basics and Updates

Paul, thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Re point 3 - The Customer Service team need better training then because I was told I could import the data file from v1 into v1.1  (That's why this has been challenging - I keep getting conflicting information from MYOB itself). If that cannot be done that's poor form from MYOB to not provide a data migration pathway between these two versions of the same product.

Thanks for responding so promptly, though.

Re: MYOB Business Basics and Updates

Hi Melanie

Data migration was not possible in this case. Business Basics is quite different to AccountRight in the database structure and to move this software to Windows 7 required a ground up rebuild of the database.

The two systems are entirely incompatible and at the time it was not feasible in the time available to create a migration path.

Re: MYOB Business Basics and Updates

Cathie

If I had a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine, they'd be yours!

The WIndows 7 Compatability mode did the trick. Business Basics v1.0 installed easily using that method. I'm so happy to be able to keep using BB.

I recommend that Customer Support be advised to suggest that solution to others wrangling with moving BB to Win7 - would save hours of frustration let alone reputations.

Again, thank you Cathie. Now to move my files over and check it all flows smoothly in the new environment.

Re: MYOB Business Basics and Updates

Hi Melanie

For numerous technical reasons that would take me half a page to write it is not possible for MYOB Client Relations to recommend the use of compatibility mode.

If your are interested I would be happy to outline why in another post. I just didn't want to bore you with tech.

Also due to personally seeing some unrecoverable (unrepairable) data corruptions with this type of installation I would highly recommend that you take backups of your data file outside the software.

That is copy and paste the file and store it somewhere on your computer away from the installation of the software and do this regularly for peace of mind.

Re: MYOB Business Basics and Updates

I have been trying unsuccessfully to get BB1.1 running on a win7 computer.

I bought the program in Feb and installed it on an XP computer but have now upgraded.

The program installs but then hangs on a grey screen when I try to start it. After this, even task manager cant shut it down.

Doesn't seem very compatible to me!
