Recording Long Distance Truck drivers 'nights away from home'

The usual practice of truck drivers recording nights away from home on a signed letter from the company has now ended. We now have to record this information on the drivers payslips. Does anyone have any experience in entering this information? Any asistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jen

Re: Recording Long Distance Truck drivers 'nights away from home'

Under wages I did a new category called overnight allowances.  I am not sure what the minimum amount is but the maximum per overnight is $89.60. Then go into exempt and tick PAYG as it is tax free to the driver.

HI Kimeric

Thanks for the help, it works perfectly except the superannuation value increases as well. Is there away to prevent that?

Thanks

Hi Jen

Under payroll catergory click on the superannuation tab.  Choose the appropriate superannuation e.g. superannuation guarantee, go the exempt tab and click on overnight allowance or whatever wage category you do not want superannuation calculated on.

There are often two different ways to achieve the same outcome. This way is quite easy.

Re: Recording Long Distance Truck drivers 'nights away from home'

Hi Kimeric

Concerning the Payment Summaries, is there supposed to be separate totals shown for Gross wages and an amount in total allowances given that the amount of $89.60 per night was ticked as exempt from tax, for overnight travel allowance?

Regards

Jen

Re: Recording Long Distance Truck drivers 'nights away from home'

Hi Jen
Make sure the overnight allowance is NOT included in gross payments. Choose one of the blank allowances and tick overnight allowance. This shows it as a separate allowance and not included in gross payments on payment summaries.
Kind Regards
