I was chatting to support today trying to resolve a 9 year headache, I have brought this up with support several times (require multiple barcodes for individual items - like quicken) and I finally found someone that understood and tried to assist.
Stock comes in on a supplier code and then out on a barcode where barcode is unknown at ordering point (thus product is created with supplier code), I am aware of the supplier code field in PO (on a side note this feature needs to be editable in the inventory card in addition not just in PO)
Too much work merging files there after with a 50 item Goods received (plus it has to close down all windows to do so) so I need to have it so supplier code as the barcode but the EAN13 barcode to be scanable at POS
So he suggested EAN13 barcode in the custom1 field and make the custom1 field the default lookup field in POS, then if the item doesnt have a EAN13 barcode then enter the supplier code, then if you require the full details then you can open the item based on the barcode (supplier code). I hope that makes sense
Sadly I got pulled away from the conversation and had to tend customers so I was unable to find out how to make the Custom1 field in inventory the defualt field in POS. I didnt get his name so I dont know who to ask for to get the end of the solution but was hoping someone on here is able to help

This sounds very similar to what we are wanting to achieve.
We have a client who have many products that arrive from a supplier and go into their warehouse, then later are used for customer orders.
Many of the products that come in from the suppliers, have a barcode attached to the product (e.g. PROD1234), and we would like to have this as the initial look up for products. The current product code is an internally made code (e.g. BC 14 D6) that they place on the product after the goods are reciepted from the supplier. this means the product can have 2 barcodes. Either the one attached from the supplier or the one they manually attach.
I would like to be able to have the users enter either the Barcode supplied on the package, OR the internal product code and still recieve the correct product details.
Is this the type of thing you are meaning? Would they use a custom field for the supplier barcode? and how is this achieved?

Hi Gwasshoppa,
Think I sussed it this afternoon by myself, and looks like I will be changing our whole configuration as a result to improve efficiency "HINT HINT - MYOB fix this headache please"
But, this is how I am going to config it.
Barcode - Supplier SKU
Custom 1 field in inventory - Manufacturer SKU - EAN13 barcode
then in product search set default lookup as custom field 1, (when in POS click on lookup product, select from the drop down menu custom 1, then select make default) - "note I have since change the name of custom 1 field in setup to EAN13 BC"
This will mean that the tracking of the item is on the supplier SKU, I can treat the SKU as a barcode for my unbarcoded items, and POS will be on both SKU and barcode EAN13, only draw back is when I have the EAN13 it will prompt to search for it and my POS staff will have to select "yes" then it will automatically popup unless there is multiple items with the same EAN13 for which will present the list of alterantives, one element I will have to be careful of is leading zeros scan into the field where everywhere else it takes off leading zeros, may have to find the settings for all the barcode readers.
But I would love it if MYOB could resolve this massive stock control headache. I can see it being annoying when it comes to stocktake as it will take slightly longer with the prompt search then "yes" but hey I think its an improvement until such time its fixed
I have been nagging MYOB to do something about this as its a key feature which majority of their competitors in the market have

Wow excellent work... you are the GURU of MYOB based on that workaround lol...
I will let my client know and see if we can use this technique
Cheers for the advice
