Hi Mike,
Thank you for your reply...and as others have pointed out, you have a thankless task being a mod when such changes occur and the decisionmakers leave it to you and your colleagues to deal with it.
One correction, while this decision doesn't effect my company now because our files are already online, we do hold perpetual licences and I bought my first version in 2000 so the planned changes to include us in the overall scheme of things.
Also above you posted :
Hi Debbo, the perpetual license grants the right to access the software indefinitely, but it does not guarantee ongoing support, updates, or activation services.
All perpetual licence holders can still access their software by installing server edition, or by moving their file online with a subscription.
My question, If the perpetual licence grants the user use of the software indefinitely doesn't stopping activation services halt use if that is nolonger possible?
Hi Albare
I agree, a perpetual licence gives the user a right to 'use' the software, not simply 'access' it. IMHO MYOB have not legal basis to stop confirmation of a file used under a perpetual licence. But that won't stop them - they are a big company with deep pockets for legal challenges.
FYI by stopping Updates on PC Edition (and yes this can be done), the user is effectively agreeing to no more support or updates. Confirmation should continue without a subscription for perpetual licence holders, or with a subscription if you have a subscription based licence only.
Regards
Gavin
