move employee from one file to another

Hi All

with the new STP 2 I think I have heard comments regarding being careful when creating new cards for existing employees as this creates double ups with the ATO?

I am going to migrate to STP2 before processing any new payroll for 2022-23 year.  We operate with 2 files (online). One employee I will be moving the information from one file to another file and making the card inactive in the existing file.

Do I need to find an ID number etc so that the ATO recognises this employee as the same one?

thanks heaps in advance.

Daph

    Hi Daph1

If the employee is finishing up in one company and working in a different company, then you would finalise his work done in the previous file, then set him up as a new employee in the new file.

If all the payroll data should be reported as a whole, I'd suggest going to the employee card in the original file and change the YTD Pay History data to 0, record a $0 pay to update ATO's records. Then set up the employee in the other company file and enter all the previous payroll figures in the employee card Pay History section, so the whole year's payroll figures will be sent to ATO in the new file.

I do recommend confirming with your accountant regarding the reporting requirements and best set up for your business situation.
