TFN Declaration forms lodging online

Can anyone please tell me if we have to lodge TFN Declaration forms to the ATO if all the info is in MYOB and STP compliant.  I have been trying all afternoon to find out how to do this but MYOB says they don't do it and contact ATO and ATO says our software program has to produce the report to submit to the ATO.   ???????

STP software is meant to have an onboarding component - this component includes the TFN Declaration. So this is what the ATO is referring to. MYOB however decided NOT to include onboarding as part of their STP reporting.  There are a number of other things normally covered by STP which MYOB does not do. MYOB limited their STP reporting to only cover what their payroll module covers. As the payroll module does not capture TFN Declaration details, MYOB's STP reporting does not either.

If you want to lodge TFN Declarations electronically, there are a number of programs out there - see for example TFN Dec Reporter by Namich.

I think its CRAZY that MYOB chose NOT to include the TFN Declaration component!

Is there any information as to why they would not include such a key useful feature?

I mean there are threads and request for this to be included way way way back before STP and other services became available.

    How ridiculous.

    Hi ntoumba

    Thanks for the feedback

My understanding is that Single Touch Payroll v2 is in the pipeline by the ATO. One of these initiatives with that new version is that Tax File Numbers are not required to be declared anymore.

So, yes the current versions of AccountRight don't have that option and its not something that we are looking at building into the software directly. However, the focus is on complying to those new standards for Single Touch Payroll, which will no longer require those TFN declarations.

    Hi Steve,

Is there any indication on timeframe for this next step in STP v2?

    Hi ntoumba

I believe it is mandatory from 1st January 2022.

Also, apologies, the wording is "Phase 2" as in "STP Phase 2".
