Secure Invoicing

Secure payments and secure invoicing is presented as an anti-fraud measure by MYOB, but is it really? I've done a lot of reading on this and I just don't see it. If you are using MYOB, you need to provide your ABN and/or ACN. MYOB verifies these with ASIC and/or the ATO. Those entities already have all your personal details, therefore MYOB must know from that verification that you are a legit business. There is no reasonable justification that I can see that MYOB should demand those same details that you have already provided to ASIC and the ATO.

And yet MYOB does demand those details, and that you sign up for secure invoicing and secure payments, or else they remove a vital function from your software - the ability to email invoices directly from the program. And.. secure payments and secure invoicing just so happens to be great for MYOB's bottom line - an addtional revenue stream as they charge a fee for each transaction. But at what cost to their loyal customers? 

MYOB, is it worth the bad feeling from customers, both new and old who feel they are being cheated or bullied?

Our company has not signed up or provided those details and we are suffering the lost productivity of having to manually create pdf invoices and email to customers. Not happy.

I just started to set up a new subscription using the below info (please note line nine of MYOB's description of the advantages of using the software,

After partially applying for a subscription and reading your terms and conditions (also the terms for online payments), there is absolutely no information to suggest that online payments are compulsory or that its something I will need to opt out of later) there is also no warning that if I choose not to use MYOB's online services I will lose the ability to create and send unlimited professional invoices. There is also nothing mentioned about Business Verification being a compulsory factor.

Customers should know the facts up-front before purchasing your software. Will this come to light during the free trial?

I'm writing this because I don't want to use online payments, I refuse to verify my business with anyone other than my financial institutions. And I still want the ability to Create and send unlimited professional invoices and quotes. 

There doesn't seem to be an avenue for discussion on this, no one from MYOB will take a phone call yet it's quite heavily discussed in the 'community'.

Thank you for your reply. Do you know if we can still send sales quotes and sales orders via email if we don't upgrade? Does this affect Purchase Orders?

I have spent most of my afternoon reading through what we are required to do for this upgrade plus other users comments.

I have not read one comment that shows anyone is happy with this new upgrade from MYOB. It appears to be way more trouble than it is worth. We all like the system that we are paying for now.

The Secure Invoicing/Payment refers to complying with Anti-money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing legislation.  I have read a bit about AUSTRAC, Australia’s AML/CTF regulator and about KYC. Which seems to apply if you are mainly in the finance sector. We are not, so why do we have to go through all this if we sell bottles or mechanical parts? 

Yet they still charge you for a service that MYOB isn't providing.

Can anyone confirm that you can turn off the secure invoicing PAYMENT FEATURE so as not to attract the 1.8% MYOB service fee for invoice payments?

And tell me how to do that?

PS - Love how MYOB replies to us privately, as to not to publicly engage or acknowledge that their customers HATE this new feature and DO NOT want to be a part of it

Having looked at the many comments about this secure invoicing matter, it seems we will not be given the option. Whether we want to sign up for online payments or not, we will be stopped from sending invoices direct from MYOB unless we give them a lot of personal information.

I am annoyed that we have to go through this verification process.   We do not take payment by credit card.  Ridiculous.

So when are myob going to discount the fees for a service they are not providing.

So, I tried to opt out of online payments, but I had already gone through verification process so that option was not available.  I called MYOB this morning to request that our file be opted out and the verification process be stopped.  No can do.  I was told the verification process needs to be completed then we can opt out.  Lots of explanations about KYC and legal jargon.    NOT HAPPY.

Customers who don't complete the business verification process for the secure invoicing upgrade will be restricted from sharing invoices directly from their MYOB file. If you don't complete the verification process, you'll need to manually download a PDF copy of the invoice and email it from Outlook.
