Taxable Payments Annual Report

I have been trying to lodge with the ATO the TPAR report for over a week now.

I have spent many hours on different days on the phone to MYOB with no resolution.

First error message from ATO:

Reason:  Line 139. Please contact your software developer. The file contains an illegal character at end of last record.

After 4 phone calls to support I was each time told that this had been rectified.  Today again the file was altered by MYOB and submitted to the ATO.

Now a new message from ATO:

“Please contact your software developer. The file size is not a correct multiple of the record length.”
Back on the phone to support for hours.

The latest resolution from MYOB was that I could go through all of the suppliers cards and take out the spaces in all of the phone numbers.

Have you ever heard of such a thing? Imagine that with over 3000 supplier cards.  I asked multiple times to speak to a supervisor however apparently that is not allowed at MYOB.  So now I have another ticket in and will be called sometime in the next 24 hours.

Can anyone help with this issue?

Thanks Heather

  • Finally fixed.  Not by MYOB, really there was a heap of failed attempts by many consultants to fix this issue but none of them worked.  A very frustrating weeks of wasted time.

I contacted Paul from MYOX Services, (link in Gavin's post) had is sorted within half hour.  Truly professional and very helpful.

    Hi HeatherTutty,

The errors you're encountering typically indicate issues with the file format or content. Check the supplier cards for any invalid characters in the address or company name fields. Avoid manually changing the TPAR file or transferring it via email or USB, as this can alter the file size. After verifying and correcting any issues, download the file again and try uploading it to the ATO.

    Kind regards,

    Shella

    • Hello Shella

      Thanks for the reply.

MYOB consultant found the invalid characters.  I have not manually changed to file.  What is the issue with emailing the file to our accountant to lodge?  Haven't heard this from any of the consultants that I have been speaking with.

I'm not sure how many times I have to speak with tech support, however the issue is still not fixed.

Is there a specialist in MYOB that can sort this out?

        Hi HeatherTutty

If you can't get MYOB support to fix, get in touch with MYOX Services. They will be able to not only fix the file for lodgement, but also tell you what you need to change in MYOB so the same thing doesn't happen again next year. There will be a fee but might be cheaper than wasting time.

FYI the comment about not emailing the lodgment file is a 'real' thing. Some email servers do add characters to the end of the file so they can identify the file. This happens to text files that do not have an end of file marker (such as TPAR lodgment files, EMPDUPE files etc).  If you need to email, zip the file and email the zip.

        Regards

        Gavin
