PDF Files Converting To Winmail.dat

Hello Myob,

We've recently ran into an issue with MYOB AccountRight Premier v19.15 which is causing all PaySlips emailed from PDF form to convert to Winmail.dat's when opened on any Apple Device (iPhones), we're also running into similar issues with some clients not all, not being able to open invoices when we've been emailing it through to them, due to similar issues with PDF's converting to winmail.dat's. This issue has only been around since we've updated to v19.15 and we haven't found any solutions to it. This is not occuring on just one of our computers, but all of them as well.

On all our computers but one, we run Microsoft Outlook 2016 and the other runs Microsoft Outlook 2007. We've tried changing Mail format from "HTML" to "Plain Text" and that did not solve our issue. We also did completely new installs of MYOB AccountRight Premier v19.15, so it can't be issues from older versions clashing. If anyone has any solution, can you please let us know, we've tried calling MYOB however we were unable to find a resolution.

Kind Regards,

Grant.

Re: PDF Files Converting To Winmail.dat

Hi @ADETurf

When AccountRight sends the details to Outlook to send, it will encode it and send it with Extended MAPI (For Outlook 2016 and AccountRight v19.15) and send it onwards. If only some recipients are having the trouble, it sounds like the devices being used are not able to decode it.

This can either be an error with the Mail Client receiving the Email or with the settings on the Mail Client sending the Email.

This can be solved by uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook on the computer to reinstall the settings that encode the emails, failing this I would be talking to Microsoft or an IT professional to see if they are able to provide information on what the issue could be between the Sender and Recipient.

Generally by changing the Format to Plain Text or HTML it changes how it encodes the winmail.dat file to be received and decoded. If the error is with the HTML encode, then you can focus your efforts to resolving this. Or vice versa. We do have another option you can try which is found on our support note: Fixing email issues

On a small note, the new AccountRight 2018 does not use MAPI to send emails and uses it's own interface and would not be having the same troubles you are having with AccountRight v19. To look into upgrading, you can see our Post: Upgrading to the new AccountRight

Re: PDF Files Converting To Winmail.dat

Hello @Haydes

Thank you for your response, however we've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook, plus repairing it through the control center. Sadly those haven't fixed our issue. The weird thing is this only started occuring once we upgraded to Myob AccountRight Premier v19.15 across all our computers. If it's a client issue, that is going to be a problem as we can't tell thousands of customers, that theirs an issue on their behalf, when we're the only people having issues sending them invoices. We can tell when we send a "Failed" PDF file as it shows an "Envelope" next to the email within Microsoft Outlook 2016 in the Sent Folder. Finally we would upgrade to AccountRight 2018, however a MYOB representative emailed us only two months ago about renewing our yearly membership.

Kind Regards,

Grant.
