Unable to do back up or close a financial year

HI,

 

Using Account Right 2018.3 and for the first time I am unable to do a back up or to close a new year. Have been able to do these things in the past but this week and last week it won't let me. I keep getting error messages OR it looks like I am closing a year but then when I look up the balance sheet (for example) there is no new year rolled over.

 

By the way we are using stand alone software, not the online version. And we have server edition on the server.

Thanks for posting on the community forum.

 

Sorry to hear you are having trouble backing up your file and closing a year. So that I can look into this further for you, can you please provide the steps you are taking before seeing this error and also a screenshot of the error?

Hi Maxine,

 

I have attached three screenshots:

First one shows the error message when I try to back up

Second one shows the message that I have closed the 2018 financial year the current one will now be 2019

But the third screenshot shows that when I then go into accounts and look for a balance sheet, "This year" still shows as 2018.

 

I need to close off at least 2018 as soon as possible as I need to generate balance reports for the month of July.

Hey @macburns,

 

Thank you for providing those screenshots, apologies for the delay in responding to you.

 

This is a tricky one as I can not replicate it.

 

The advice I have been given for you is:

From that first error, it looks like there is a problem creating the backup file in the location you had specified. This may be why it is not allowing the roll over of the financial year. Are you able to try taking a backup again, this time save it somewhere simple (like your desktop) and give it a short name (this is something that can be changed later). Then try rolling over on the server and see if that works for you.

Hi Maxine,

 

I tried your suggestion for the back-up... I tried saving the back-up to the desktop and got a different error message... please see the attached screenshot. I cannot understand this error message as I am definetly connected to the server ( I had to be to open the file) and am still connected to the server (can open other files on the server)

 

Please I need to get our MYOB working again ASAP.

Hey @macburns,

 

Sorry to hear you are still having trouble with this.

From this message, it looks like there is an issue with your library service. I am linking you to a help article on this- AccountRight library service issues. I would suggest going through steps 2, 3 and 4 and see if this helps. If it doesn't, go through all steps.

Hi Maxine,

 

Thanks for your ongoing help.. you definetly pointed me in the right direction but I got confused and tried to follow the instructions on my workstation... once someone else told me I needed to do it on the server, the problem has now been fixed - thank you
