When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Hi MYOB

When is the time it takes to backup going to be addressed ?

40+ minutes to take a backup is a Joke and shows the lack of care for your customers data.

We need to be able to take a backup each and every day or as needed.

Like before importing data, but because it takes SO long we often don't backup.

Our eCommerce DB is 18Gb in size and that takes only ~6 minutes to backup and dump to our internal FTP server.

Our AR2019 DB is only about 1.4Gb

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Hi @AndrewStephen

When a company file is stored in the cloud it can take a period of time to backup. This is because it is actually doing a conversion of the file from a Microsoft Azure based file (server file) to a myox file then into a zip file.  As such, it's not a start conversion of the company file to a zip file like AccountRight Classic or locally.  Other factors, such as time of day, internet connection, size of file... can also play a part in it.

If you are finding an extensively long period of time to back up, checking out the file to take the backup would be the recommendation as this doesn't need to do that conversion process from the server file to a myox file.

Kind regards,
Steven

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Hi @Steven_M

Thanks for the explaination on whats happening.

I am aware of the process that occurs.

Can you please answer my question when is MYOB going to address the issue with the time it takes to do a backup and to save a copy locally.

Not allow your customers the means to backup efficiently is negligent to say the least on MYOB part.

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

It's not only a time issue - we work on so many files daily and have very fast internet and the amount of backups which fail with disconnection errors is concerning. I note it is worse early mornings, evenings and Sunday when you would think there are less users.

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Forcing your clients to do 'work arounds' to backup is unacceptable.

Backing up data is an imperitive part of doing business and MYOB should be addressing these backing-up problems immeditately.

I'm no IT expert, but I can't even see why we should need to backup manually anyway?  If the file is held on the cloud then why can't MYOB create backups daily?

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Hi @Wendy26

MYOB do take backups but you should never rely on just the backups taken by a vendor.

We all should have our own stored backup locally and to whatever backup solution we use.

Ideally, a scheduled backup would be ideal.

I am guessing the issue with backups is one of resource usage and that MYOB throttle the backups so not to impact on general performance.  Image if everyone was to backup at the same time each day their services would grind to halt.

MYOB needs to address this issue.

Not allowing a user to take a backup in an efficient manner is negligent.

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Hi @Steven_M

Auto sync is now failing for us.

Forced sync is now failing for us.

What am I meant to do ?

It takes a good 45 mins to back, I don't want to import CSV files without a backup.

Even MYOB recommend doing a backup for importing.

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Gave up tonight trying to backup.

Started at 6pm and and its 9.30pm

Out of Memory when trying to Sync\

Backup Timeout and lost connection.

Before you blame the internet connection was ssh'd to my Azure Centos sever the whole time and it didn't drop the connection once.  Come on @#TeamMYOB you need to address this issue.

I want to BACKUP my data and you ares preventing me from doing so.

That is not acceptable.

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Hi @AndrewStephen

If you are encountering an error syncing your company file we do recommend reviewing Help Article: Synchronise a company file - What can I do if I'm getting an error when manually synchronising?

Kind regards,
Steven

Re: When is backup time going to be addressed ?

Hi @Steven_M

Like I have mentioned, we can get it working and then it stops.

Its been an issues since first upgrading to AR2018

Many from #TeamMYOB have help, the company file was even looked at for errors and still it happens.

I managed to finally sync finished about 2am this morning after many many wasted hours.

Let see how long before it fails again.

Andrew
