Accountright file upload to online

We are having many issues uploading the Accountright file to online. Our datafile is 2.3Gb and after trying the restore method or straight upload we have had no luck.

Can anyone advise any hard limits they have experienced with file size and if we need to use a 3rd party to shrink the file size or if we should continue on with progressing the matter with Myob support?

I have been on the phone with Paul from support for many hours who has been very helpful however it seems the support they received from back of house is limiting them in resolving the matter.

Re: Accountright file upload to online

Hi @Matthew_Gayler , performance will certainly be inadequate for that file size,  so anything you can do to reduce the file size should be done, and from your comments it will probably have to be redone annually, if your business can manage that,  as Accountright has no purge facility.

There are no hard limits on file size,  every file is different, but the smaller the better.

When you submit the file for an online upgrade, I believe it goes to the data repair team if there are any issues, so there should be some feedback to you from that process.

Have any particular issues other than file size been identified so far?

Re: Accountright file upload to online

No issues have been experienced with the data file other than it wont upload to online.

I have not been able to submit a copy of the file to Myob as yet for testing. This has not been offered.

When we shifted from Myob v19 to Accountright, Myob was unable to migrate the file. We had to use a 3rd party to compact the data file down to then be able to upgrade it. Response from Myob was to export out the data and import it in a new file.

In reviewing all available information,  we have not been able to find specifications on sizing, transaction limits as well as recommendations as to what your options are should you have should you reach these limits.

Is there a white paper on exporting out data and reimporting into a new datafile?

Hello @Matthew_Gayler

Are you able to please provide some more details as to what is happening when you try to upload. Are you getting any error messages popping up? Are you able t please attach the diagnostics log

In terms of the importing and exporting data I have linked our Help Article on importing and exporting which will list all the data available that you are able to import and export.

Kind regards,
Chris

Re: Accountright file upload to online

Hi @Matthew_Gayler

The database engine used by MYOB has a hard file size limit of 4 GB. There are no technical transaction number or record number limits. I have seen a 3.5 GB file online, however as mentioned by @Mike_James, performance will be impacted, perhaps severely.

While 4 GB is the size limit, often if using a 3rd party tool to import data (ostendo for example), the software fails to update the file after the file size is around 2 GB, not sure exactly why however this has been reported by a number of users. Such software imports all transactions as GJs and so the files end up with a large number of records in one table. Again while there is no technical limit on the number of records or table size, once these reach large numbers, it seems there is a practical limit for efficient processing and updating.

Uploading a large file will take awhile longer and if you have poor internet speeds, perhaps try after hours when MYOB's server loads might be 'lighter'. The upload might timeout or disconnect if it takes too long.

Send me a private message if you want contact details for someone who can reduce the file by 'purging'.

What @Mike_James mentioned about the MYOB data repair team refers to upgrades from v19. The team would often purge all prior year data while the file was in v19 (and often without telling or checking with the client). If your file is already a myox file this would not apply.

Regards

Gavin
