Why is it that when so many of us have unreliable internet connections, version 2020.2 takes away the ability to sign out your file and work on it offline. Trying to work on my file while it is signed in is slow and frustrating. Surely with today's technolgy MYOB should be adding features not taking them away

Hi @1963
Microsoft is no longer supporting some of the backend technology that older versions of AccountRight 20xx uses. As a result certain functions including checking in and out online files have been removed from AccountRight 20xx. This is to ensure that user data and their software isn't exposed to any risks from unsupported, obsolete technology. More information on these changes can be found on Important changes in AccountRight 2020.2.
Note: Clients are still welcome to take a backup of their online company file (File>>Backup) and restore that file locally (File>>Restore>>Restore into a library on my computer) if they wish to work on the company files locally.
Kind regards,
Steven

It doesn't make sense.
Its creating 2 issues for me.
1st you don't always plan internet outage so uploading your file to you library is not always possible.
It means your file is not the latest one.
2nd reloading the backup to the cloud after working offline its not really practical too many steps here.( risk of working with wrong file next time)
Yes I do backup locally after every sessions but, you have to bring back synchronisation between my library and cloud.
Online use is supposed to be more practical not more time consuming.

Hi @Jeromeo
With the removal of dependency on now unsupported Windows components with AccountRight 2020.2 company files are no longer able to be checked out. As such, if your company file is stored in the cloud an active Internet connection would be required to access the company file. Should you be in a position where you know that you would be without Internet for a period of time, taking a backup of the company file before restoring locally would be the recommendation. If you are in a position where the Internet is unable and you haven't taken a copy of that file, you would be unable to open that file until that Internet connection is restored or a backup is taken on another computer (such as a home computer and then moved to the office).
Kind regards,
Steven

That's a ridiculous solution because it allows for easily stuffing up your file/s.
Not everyone has a dedicated myob specialist, as many of us are small-medium business people without a lot of time to deal with internet dropouts, dodgy connections let alone the amount of times the program decides it doesn't like what you're inputting and decides it needs to close and re-open.
It doesn't matter how many times you forward the error details because myob does nothing about them.
I used to have a much smoother process of entering info offline and then reconnecting once done.

its exactly why its so impractical. I don't like it. You guys went backwards not forwards in my opinion.

Hi @cat
Thank you for your feedback on this topic. While we do value that feedback, the ability to check out a company file with the later versions of AccountRight 2020 is not a feature that we are looking at adding in the future. Although, we are always working on ways and workflow enhancements to prevent system errors so clients don't need to check out the file to complete those actions within the software.
Kind regards,
Steven

Frustrated - definitely a backwards move. Pay more get less.

You're missing the point Steven, the whole world doesn't have good internet connection and speed. When connection is poor and speed slow, entering data online is difficult. You have taken away a feature that made your product usable for a lot of people and "you're not looking at adding it in the future???" Charges keep going up though!!!
