Create a specialist taskforce to fix MYOB

I have just encountered yet another problem that has been known to MYOB for years but hasn't been fixed.

I started a new job this year and there have been several instances where I've said "we can do XYZ in MYOB" and we all agree to proceed, then when I go to implement that decision, I find out that MYOB no longer has the function, or it's broken and we don't know when it will be fixed. And the workaround is tedious and doesn't do anything to help what we're trying to do.

I'm the one who looks like an idiot. Several times over.
Me: I can run a report that does that for you.
Also me: Oh, sorry, they removed that report. Maybe we can use this report instead.
Also me: No, they removed that field as a selectable option on that report. But we should be able to do this...
Also me: No, sorry, that doesn't work either anymore. Well, maybe we can try this as a work around.
Also me: Nope, that feature's been removed too.

There are just SOOOOOOOO many things that used to be easy and made working with MYOB pleasant and convenient. Now, every time I turn around there's another problem with a feature, process or report, that's been known for years. But I don't find out until I need it and have convinced my employer that this is the best option... only it isn't even an option anymore.

I did my initial MYOB training pre-Windows 3.1 and have always recommended it to people looking for an easy to use accounting package. Ever since being forced to move from the desktop version to the cloud version, it has gone downhill. I will no longer be recommending it. I won't make a recommendation at all, since I've not had much experience with other software. Maybe it still is a good program, if you don't know how much better it used to be.

Yes, there are a lot of new features that I appreciate, such as bank feeds and auto invoice reminders but these do not outweigh the vast number of issues that now exist in what was once a very solid, reliable piece of software that just did what it was supposed to do.

This is not a feature request as such, but perhaps it's time for MYOB to employee a team whose only role is to start working through all the "we're aware of this issue" posts in this forum. Just slowly tick them off as solved/fixed/implemented, one by one and bring the software back to the leading software I once believed it to be.

I am also fairly sure I have already suggested something like this but I can't find it, so please feel free to merge my idea with another if it already exists.

Re: Create a specialist taskforce to fix MYOB

Agree!  I'm also feeling like an idiot when trying to explain to my boss why this whole Holiday Act disaster has happened and worse I don't know how to fix it and I can't get any help from MYOB as they haven't returned my call from 3 weeks ago and I can't get through.  So far I just received one call asking how we might be affected from a guy with a thick Indian accent and I only understood about half of what he was saying.

Wondering what better payroll systems there are out there.

I've just moved to MYOB and am surprised to find in this forum how long some seemingly simple suggestions don't go implemented for years... I saw one the other day going back to 2012...

Re: Create a specialist taskforce to fix MYOB

I whole heartedly agree with your comments.  I am not sure why MYOB are concentrating all their Efforts on Essentials, when MYOB Account Right needs to be the one they focus on.  Fixing all the problems, including getting this direct onto the Internet instead of going through the PC based program to the Cloud would be just one step in the right direction.  I have also used this program for may years, since 2000, and since 2011 it has gradually slid down the hill, such a shame really, and a large chunk of my Clients have all switched to the "Must have It Program that we all hear about everyday"  I still prefer MYOB, but it is the Clients who are the ones who need to be convinced, MYOB needs to fix all the "Bugs" and get back to the business of looking after their Clients and finding out from the Clients why they have changed to the OTHER Program.  It is a serious mistake to take your Clients for granted.  Time to Wake Up and get back to the wonderful MyMYOB people that you were.

Thank you

Re: Create a specialist taskforce to fix MYOB

When you say cloud version, do you mean MYOB Essentials? And is it the New MYOB Essentials? From my understanding there is the new and the old.

I am a new user since March 2020, and it has been problem after problem in trying to convert my accounting system to New MYOB Essentials. The problem is still ongoing. It has been a very unpleasant experience.

Hi @angieya

By cloud version, I was referring to AccountRight which used to be a stable, reliable desktop program. It was changed to a cloud-based program which we were all assured would be as good or better, but it was not, and still is not.

I have never used MYOB Essentials but I imagine it went through the same transition. Sorry to hear you've had an unpleasant experience - I certainly hope you are one of the lucky ones whose experience improves as time goes on.

Re: Create a specialist taskforce to fix MYOB

Hi H-TS

Just wondering if you have had a positive response to this, or are the just making all sorts of suggestions about going to the lame duck called Essentials Smiley Happy  I agree 100% with your summary of the problems, and I do use other software, Xero, Quickbooks and Reckon.  The only difference being that I have used MYOB since 2000 and have been a Partner for that long as well both through the Practice and my Bookkeeping Business.  Such a shame that it has gone down hill so far since 2011, and continues to go down hill while all the other programs are onwards and upwards.  I also think MYOB should advertise their add-ons, so that we can know what is available and a brief description of how it works, similar to Xero, Quickbooks, Reckon and Sage.  MYOB original success in Australia has now been handed over to Xero on a platter, by failing to see where the trend was going and failing to fix the MYOB developing problems.  Even the fact that we no longer have dedicated Partner Account Managers.  It seems that we are now in a Pool where we have Partner Managers maybe?  Technical Support is for the mundane questions only, then you have to get a call back, sometime, from the new level up.  Where are all our Great Technical Support People these days? I hope MYOB wake-up before it is totally lost!  So sad really!

Hi @DebS_5

In answer to your question, my post is receiving a few kudos per week and the only comments left have been positive. Not surprisingly, noone has left a comment saying "I don't know what you're talking about, AccountRight is awesome!" Smiley Wink

Unfortunately not surprisingly, there has been no response from MYOB.

Re: Create a specialist taskforce to fix MYOB

I guess it is a question of priorities for MYOB. For me as a property development and construction specialist is bizarre how MYOB still hasn't implemented properly part payment for purchase orders (that Quickbook had for probably about 15 years) and a decent reporting system allowing some reasonable flexibility.

To be honest, I just gave up.
