Speed of Accountright 2017.1

After recently moving to a new premisis (with better internet) our MYOB Accountright is experiencing terrible response times for even the simplest of tasks (Closing/minimising windows & day to day operation). Our company file is only a few hundred mb and 2-5 users are accessing the file at one time.

Can anyone help with a solution? No antivirus was changed and the slow speeds are seriously impacing our business. Myob chat with a tech was unsuccessful as they offered no resolution.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Re: Speed of Accountright 2017.1

We are experiencing the exact same issues, I raised the below post 2 weeks ago with no response as yet.

Tried the same in chatting with a MYOB Support Rep and got no where.

Re: Speed of Accountright 2017.1

Hi @Connor2017 & @SHT,

Thank you for posting!

We're sorry to hear you both are having trouble with the performance of AccountRight.

There are many possible reasons for slow performance and we will look into them all to see which is causing it for you.

I understand that for most, we haven't really proactively made any changes to the computer system such as security updates. However, system security softwares tend to update automatically and in the background so much as you will never even notice that it has made a change. So we will look into that. Below is a list of things to check and try:

  • Make sure all anti-virus/firewall softwares are switched off e.g Avast, McAfee, AVG, etc. *ESPECIALLY* Windows Defender afterwhich I would like you to test if there would be any change in the performance of the program.
  • Check the size of the company file to do this in your command centre, go to Accounts >> Company Data Auditor >> Company Overview and it will tell you how big the file is. There isn't really a maximum size per se, but we've noticed that when the file reaches around 800mb to 900mb the performance of the program when running the file is somehow compromised.
  • Try running a sample file albeit a significantly smaller company file. All AccountRight programs come with sample company files which you can use for practice and troubleshooting purposes at your discretion. To access them at the welcome page at the bottom of the screen there would be an option that says "Explore a Sample Company".
  • If your company file is in the cloud (is online) go to speedtest.net and check for your internet speed. If one or both your Download and Upload speeds are below 0.7mbps, then being online might not be working out for you.
  • Another thing to check if your company file is online is the number of people logged into the company file at the same time. Make sure that no one else is logged into the company file aside from you and test the performance.

We'll start with those, please reply here with the result of your tests and if none of the above works for you we'll proceed further with our troubleshooting.

Let us know how you get on!

Kind regards,
Leighton

Re: Speed of Accountright 2017.1

Deactivating Antivirus had no effect. We also use different antivirus on different computers (Norton/Eset).

Your instructions for finding out company file size did not work - the file size was not displayed.

Our speedtest came up with:

41mbps down

18mbps up

We do have up to 4 people on the file at once however I would like to think that the system can handle that?

Perhaps this is not the system for us if this is the case?

Please respond.

Re: Speed of Accountright 2017.1

Hi @Connor2017

Wow I wish I had your internet speed!!

The file size thing mentioned by @LeightonJ only works on Classic MYOB not AR2017. To get the file size, you could check the file out to work offline, then check the size on the HDD, or make a backup, unzip it and check the file size there. Not sure if there is a better way or not.

If you had better performance at other location (using same version of MYOB), this would suggest there might be something in your environment, (server, cabling, switches).

A number of users who have upgraded from AR2016.3 to AR2017.1 have also reported AR2017.1 is much slower than AR2016.3 - not sure of the reason behind this.  Of course all those who upgrade from v19 find AR2017 is much slower

Hope you find your cause - 4 users shouldn't be the problem.

Regards

Gavin
