Using app.MYOB in the Browser Pros and Cons; Changing from PC to Mac

MYOB Partners - please help!

We are a business that is trying to make two transitions:

1. moving from PC to MAC laptops; and

2. moving from PC software MYOB AccountRight online to the app.myob file accessed via browser.

Essentially my questions are:

- How will be able to access our backup files from the browser version using a MAC laptop?

- Will we lose any funcationality by working on the app.myob file: payroll, banking, STP, PaySuper, Reporting, Forms?

- How will we be able to download our data onto the MAC laptop at a later date and work offline?

- Can our Accountant read our data if we change from PC software to MAC software after we change our laptops?

Looking forward to getting some advice

Re: Using app.MYOB in the Browser Pros and Cons; Changing from PC to Mac

Hi @ChippyBirdCat

The AccountRight In-browser experience allows users to access their current AccountRight company file in a browser. Currently, it's designed to be worked in tandem with the AccountRight desktop application. With clients encouraged to have access to the AccountRight desktop application on the computer to resort back to, if needed.

The In-browser experience offers the majority of transactions such as service or item layout invoices and bills, payroll, banking and journal entries among others to be viewed and recorded. It should be pointed out, users still have access to their AccountRight company file using the Desktop application, so they are welcome to also view and record those transactions and other transaction types in that desktop application as and if required.

Currently, the AccountRight in-browser experience doesn't offer the full functionality as the Desktop application. As such it's not currently a replacement for the software only an additional way for clients to access their business data to record transactions.

Kind regards,
Steven

Thanks Steven, that helps me think about things with more clarity Smiley Happy

Am I right in thinking that data files are still not interchangeable between PC and MAC software?

Can someone who has access to a MAC login to the app.myob file?

Cheers!

Re: Using app.MYOB in the Browser Pros and Cons; Changing from PC to Mac

Hi @ChippyBirdCat

We do offer a migration service to migrate data from AccountEdge files to AccountRight*. Although, once company files are on AccountRight 2020 these files would not be able to be opened in AccountEdge, only AccountRight 2020.

In terms of AccountRight in-browser experience within other environments, as the AccountRight in-browser experience uses an Internet browser, users can access the data from their other operating systems. Although, we are currently focusing on delivering that experience to our Windows-based users using AccountRight also on their computer.

*We do migrate transactions that affect the transaction journal, contacts, items, chart of accounts, open invoices and bills. For the most part, we do try to convert that information (where appropriate) for the full file, however, in some cases, due to the size we may purge out information thus only migrating the current and last financial year. It should also be noted that customise forms, progress billing and additional inventory information (variations...) will not be migrated.

Kind regards,
Steven
