Senior and Pensioners Offset 2018

I think I have found an error in this calculator.

I am doing a client whose date of birth is 11 Feb 1953.

I just saw him this week and he mentioned he will be able to get an age pension in August 2018, when he is 65 and a half.

The tax software popped up and alerted me to claim this rebate on his 2018 tax return, and let me complete it with the code in place.

From my understanding, (and the MTG) you have to be eligible to claim a pension to be able to claim this rebate.  Due to his age, the taxpayer is not eligible.

Re: Senior and Pensioners Offset 2018

Hello @RPD

Thanks for your question with regards to Senior And Pensioner Tax Offset (SAPTO)- its an area we get a number of questions for.

There is currently a known issue with the MYOB software where it is alerting users to enter details at T1 (if eligible) where the taxpayer turns 65 during the tax year (rather than the required 65 and 6 months). This issue is being investigated and will be resolved in an upcoming release.

The current workaround is to ensure the taxpayer is eligible before entering a SAPTO code in T1.
