I am just wondering if anybody is in a similar boat to us
We run and Windows 2008 R1 SBS Server and Windows 2008 R1 Server as a terminal server.
Myob have announced they will no longer be supporting this operating system. It is a major upgrade for our business that we had planned to do over Christmas 2015/2016.
I am however concerned that when tax 2015 is launched in around 8 weeks I will be in trouble if it doesn't work on our systems.
I am curious if anybody else is in similar situation.

Hi Brett,
I'm a Client Manager (practice solutions contact) for about 150 firms throughout Vic & Tas. Dealing with these types of queries and performance issues within different IT environments is a part of my job.
Totally understand your point and the short answer is that the June 2015 tax update (and any future updates) will probably work on the older technology however MYOB won't be testing it. Therefore, if there's any issues, the onus is on the firm (and thus their IT provider) to be running the software in a supported environment rather than on MYOB to support it.
Ideally, you should provision a supported environment for your client and the client should engage MYOB Tech Services to complete the server migration of our software into the new environment.
The End of Life of older server and workstation technology from Microsoft shouldn't be a surprise to IT professionals. MYOB has this info published on their website under the System Requirements and regularly communicates the upcoming end of lifes info through the eBulletin system (via the my.MYOB portal where you download the updates) and annual Technology updates. Here's a link to the Technology update from September last year:

As a technology company, MYOB will consistently aim to test its products on all the latest platforms including Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, SQL Server and Office products. This also means that as technologies grow outdated, MYOB will no longer test and support them. For example as a result of not having to test on older platforms, MYOB has recently certified SQL Server 2014.
In the KB article below is a table outlining the current compatiblity of MYOB software, linking to the relevant statements for each product for more detail.

Happy to assist or clarify any of the above if you need.

PS:
The AE/AO suites of practice management software are the backbone of over 7000 accounting practices throughout Australia & New Zealand and are usually the most complex pieces of software in the firm. They cover off Practice & Document Management as well as Tax, GL, Reporting, Asset management, Corporate Compliance workflows. At present, MYOB are focussed on extending the proven desktop/on premise software with online workflows that make business life easier for accountants and their clients

Hi Brett,
Thanks for your call today - was good to chat.
Re your question are other firms in the same position?
Yes, there are some that haven't updated their server technology for whatever reason however the majority of our client base is on the Server 2008 R2 technology (Microsoft EOL Dec 2016). The majority of clients that have upgraded in the past 12-18 months have migrated to Server 2012 and some clients that are upgrading/moving now are moving to SQL 2014.
Hope that clears that up.
Cheers,
Travis

They don't support 2008 R2 either!
It's no longer possible to open a datafile via a shortcut - Which renders the Remote App functionality of 2008 R2 Terminal Services useless and will significantly increase the chances of clients with multiple datafiles opening and entering data in the wrong one.
The backup now defaults to a specific location and this can't be changed - guaranteeing that clients will never get a successful backup, or at least not one that they can find! It's no longer "one click".
The Set Library location tool is PER USER, not PER MACHINE. So unless everyone logs in as the administrator....

Hi @papa-smurf
Thanks for your post! From your other posts, and your account with MYOB, it would appear that you are experiencing issues with AccountRight Enterprise - however, this particular topic is in relation to the "Accountants Enterprise" product designed for Accountants for General Ledger, Tax Preparation, and Practice Management.
Looking at the System Requirements for the AccountRight Enterprise product,, it would seem that the product does infact work on Windows Server 2008 R2. You can check our the requirements here.
I can see that you have other posts that the AccountRight support team have answered - but if you have further questions, you can always visit the AccountRight category on the Community Forum.
