Dashboard: Setting as of date

Why cant there be a button on the dashbpard where you can choose as at what date you want the balances to show...as it stands now I have no idea as at what date these balances are?

Further from the dashboard why cant we click on a account and then drill down further from there rather then having to go somewhere else to see why our balances are incorrect?

Please add a customisable graph feature to the dashboard. My old accounting program showed me the cashflow monthly comparision as soon as I logged in, allowing me to easily see where I'm at for each month. 

Alternatively, the option to save default graph settings instead of having to pull them up each time.
