Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi @bleigh,

Thank you for your post.

In compliance with the ATO, the rules state that you must declare STP before or on the date payment is made. This is the reason for the rejected ATO error.

If you have any further queries, please let me know.

Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi @Sam_R

Your response does not make sense. If @bleigh processes payroll on the 29th with Payment Date 30th, declaring on the 29th is 'on or before the Payment Date'. Other STP software has no problem reporting payroll in advance of the payment date.

Or am I missing something?

Gavin

Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi @gavin12345,

Apologies for the delayed reply and the incorrect wording in my response.

In compliance with ATO rules, the date entered for the payment date must not be later than the day you lodge it with the ATO. Our software does allow future dated pay runs to be entered, however, STP will throw an error (CMN.ATO.PAYEVNT.000199 - The date entered for the pay/update Date must not be later than today's date).

Let me know if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,
Sam

Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi Sam,

Can I just check on this please.  It still doesn't make sense to me.  I have not been able to find any information from the ATO stating that "the payment date must not be later than the day you lodge it with the ATO".  Could you please send the ATO link to where this is stated.

Additionally I have successfully run future dated payrolls which were accepted by the ATO.  What I can't work out is the random times that the future-dated payroll is rejected.  There is no pattern to this.  Any ideas?

Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi @Veronika

Pay/Update Date is a field - is the Date of Payment for a normal payroll reporting transaction, however when reporting an Update, it is the Update Date.

According to ATO documentation, when reporting payroll, you can report a future payment day - CMN.ATO.PAYEVNT.000199 does not apply here.

However when reporting an Update, the Pay/Update Date field cannot be later than today. Updates are for corrections and EOY Finalisation. You are advising of a correction today, the new figures are correct today.

Hope this clarifies.

Gavin

Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi Gavin,

Thanks for the information.  I have, just today, had this issue again.  The payroll I was trying to process and report was a NIL pay rather than the update event.  Just like we used to do in STP 1, manually processed for the future date.  I am aware that when using the update event button, this only updates the YTD figures to today and will not include any future dated payrolls.  This makes sense.

In this case however, the payroll was run as at 30.6.2022 for start period 30.6.2022 and end period 30.6.2022, via the payroll function.  Normally I don't have any issues doing this, reporting it and the ATO accepting it (I successfully pre-run and report my personal montly payrolls 2-3 weeks in advance most of the time), however from time to time the system throws up this error, regardless of whether I am running a NIL payroll or one with figures.  I have not been able to find a pattern.

Additionally, in today's payroll, the employer processed and reported the payroll dated 30.6.2022 first.  The ATO has also accepted this payroll but for some reason the YTD figures did not update in the finalisation/verification report.  I have then sent an update event thinking this might solve the problem however I have realised that the system only sent the YTD figures to 27.6.2022 rather than the 30.6.2022.  To solve this problem, I have tried to run a NIL payroll as at 30.6.2022, twice, these were rejected.  I cannot work out why the client's original payroll dated 30.6.2022 was accepted by the ATO but the one I tried processing and reporting after were not.

I hope this makes sense.  I have included a snippet of the reporting with the ATO.  The 4th row from the top is the payroll that the client has run and reported and was accepted, although the verification YTD figures did not reflect this.  The 3rd from the top is the update event which was accepted but only to 27.6.2022.  The top 2 are the NIL payrolls that I have tried to process and report to update the YTD figures.

I hope this helps to clarify all of the above.  If you have any ideas or suggestion on how to get this to the ATO successfully (other than waiting to 30.6.2022). please let me know.

Thank you  :0)

Veronika

Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi @Veronika

Subject to clarification by a MYOB Moderator, this is what I would suggest:

In Phase 1, MYOB did not have something they referred to as an Update, their solution to almost every problem was to lodge a zero pay. I suspect a zero pay was and is reported as an Update. The ATO refers to a Submit event (normal payroll report) and an Update Event (correction and EOY Finalisation). Finalisation is normally done as an Update event even though MYOB did not refer to this as such.

In Phase 2 they added a specific Update event.

In your situation you would lodge a normal pay (Submit) for period ended say 3 July but with a payment date of 30 June 2022. You could lodge this early, say on 26 June 2022. If you need to make a correction or to do finalisation, you could do this as a Update event or a zero pay today - the date you would use would be 28 June 2022 (always today's date). The ATO would accept this and it would be treated as for the period ended 30 June 2022.  Even though the correction is dated 28 June 2022, it would be treated as for pays made to 30 June 2022.

Hope this makes sense - in other words use today's date when reported an Update or a zero pay which is in effect the same thing.

Regards

Gavin

Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi Gavin,

Thank you for your response.  I have run an update event yesterday and again this morning.  Both have been accepted by the ATO, however the YTD figures are still incorrect.  We are missing one payroll, which I suspect is the one processed yesterday (27.6.2022) for payment date 30.6.2022.  Mind you, this payroll was accepted by the ATO yesterday, but again, the YTD figures do not reflect this.

When I try to run a NIL payroll dated 30.6.2022, the ATO rejects this due to the date being forward dated.  Unforutnately no zero payrolls and no update events have solved this issues as yet.  Smiley Sad

Re: Unable to do a future dated payroll

Hi Veronika,

Just wondering if you have worked out why you have been getting the CMN.ATO.PAYEVNT.000199 error?

I have done multiple future dated payrolls without issue and for the first time have had this error appear.

I'm not having any luck finding out why it is occurring.

I have confirmed with the ATO that, contrary to the advice you have received in this thread, the report date must be on or before the pay day, therefore, future dated payrolls are permitted and this error message is not appropriate.

I hope you have had some luck!

Thank you
