Balance Sheet not balancing when starting new FY's

Balance Sheet balances at June 2023.  Balance Sheet does NOT balance at July 2023.  Problem - current year earnings for FY2023 drop into no-man's land, all that show on July BS are FY2024.  Happening across three different data files I've looked at this morning.

I do not want to start a new year yet! (prefer to wait until accountant finished, lodged, completed and any adjusting journals are done).

Oh how I miss AccountEdge - as soon as July starts, the previous years earnings went straight to "retained earnings" and balance sheet balanced!  How can an accounting system give you unbalanced balance sheets - not acceptable!

And note - when you click start a new financial year under business settings, it DOES fix it - I just cannot fathom why that is a manual process when it never used to be.
