How to allocate BAS payments to ATO from bank feed.

I am relatively new to MYOB essentials. I have been paying BAS amounts due to the ATO in instalments, and just thought i had to allocate it to GST paid when i match transactions in bank feeds. But upon some looking it seems I have been allocating it wrong. Could someone please help on how I should be matching the transaction or if i have to create a spend money? ( Not sure how to go about that either). I have been confusing myself looking at other forum topics.

Are you paying your GST using the instalment method or are you paying a ATO BAS debt by instalments.

None of my clients pay GST using the instalment method as I like to review the MYOB file at least quarterly before I lodge the BAS getting the Tax Agent extension. The client then gets eight weeks to lodge and pay - we often lodge early, sometimes pay early or pay by the 56th day.

If you are paying GST using the instalment method, I would set up a Current Liability called GST Instalments.

Your Tax Agent would then reconcile the GST Instalments paid to the actual GST when preparing the Tax Return.

If you are paying a ATO BAS debt, you do a journal for the BAS to a Current Liability called ATO - ICA.

Payments to the ATO are posted to ATO - ICA.

There are many posts on the Forum on this topic.

Let me know how you go.
