AccountRight Premier v19.6.1 EOL And Migration

Hello,

We are currently running MYOB AccountRight Premier v19.6.1 for 2 companies together with MYOB annual cover subscription. The application runs on two desktops with the database located on a file server.

A longstanding issue has been poor / indifferent multi-user performace even with just two simultaneous users and the need for one user to have to log out of their MYOB session depending on the task the other user is doing.

We are now positioned to only need to operate one (1) company (but still across two desktops).

We have tried to migrate to MYOB payroll, however, we have found that keeping this separate (we use WageEasy) works best for us i.e. we don't use (or intend to ever use) MYOB payroll.

MYOB have announced end of support for AccountRight Classic which appears to include all AccountRight v19 software (standard, plus and premier).

MYOB have since announced a newer (and probably wholesale) release of MYOB AccountRight 2018.3

Questions

Q1. Is MYOB AccountRight 2018.3 still available in the 3 flavours : standard, plus (includes payroll), premier (includes payroll, multiple companies) ?

Q2. Can the v19.6 database be upgraded to the 2018.3 database directly (or does it need to be hopped through intermediate versions) ?

Q3. We maintain archives of v19.6 company databases in case we need to go back and look at old data. Can we keep AR v19.6 and AV 2018.3 installed in separate program directories on the same desktop to maintain  flexibility for looking at archived company databases ?.

Q4. If we are just running one company now can we upgrade from AR Premier v19.6 to the simpler AR 2018.3 Standard to save on annual cover subscription fees ? If so, does this lock us out in future from changing across to AR 2018.3 Plus or AR 2018.3 Premier ?

Q5. Does MYOB AccountRight 2018.3 (Standard, Plus and Premier) operate quickly and reliably with two or more users logged on to the same database (v19.6 and earlier releases behaved poorly for us during muli-user access) ?

thanks

Re: AccountRight Premier v19.6.1 EOL And Migration

Hi @iosman1234

I think it would be good to point out that as of 30 September 2019 MYOB is no longer providing updates (compliance, compatibility or feature upgrades) for the AccountRight Classic (v19 or below) product range. Clients are still welcome to use those older versions of the program and confirmation of company files will continue.

However, to answer your questions directly:

  1. The AccountRight 20xx range comes in four product levels - Basics, Standard, Plus and Premier. The compare website does list what is available for each product level.

  2. AccountRight Classic company files should be able to be migrated successfully to AccountRight 2019. Very old versions may need to go a step-migrator but we are talk pre-version 15, AccountRight v19.6 should migrate successfully.

  3. You certainly can have an AccountRight Classic and AccountRight 210xx versions installed on the same computer if required.
  4. While we can look at moving you to a lower product level with the migration it does come down to the migration of that file.

Basically, when you install AccountRight 20xx you install all the product levels (Basics, Standard, Plus and Premier). The company file determines what product level to open the file in. The key thing being you can only go up the product level i.e. you can go Basics-->Standard-->Plus-->Premier, you are not able to go Premier -->Plus-->Standard-->Basics.

When you migrate a company file it looks at various factors such as what features have been used in the file and what product level the company file has come from to determine what product level it migrates the company file across as. If that company file does migrate as a Standard file, which may be possible depending on what features have been used, we can look at moving you to AccountRight Standard. If it migrates as a Plus or Premier file you would be looking at starting a new company file with AccountRight 20xx if you want to move to AccountRight Standard.

  5. While AccountRight 20xx will never be as fast as an old desktop product designed for when computers had significantly slower response times, the benefits of working online and the time saving benefits included in the AccountRight 20xx range far outweigh any discernible difference in response times. Time saving benefits include automated bank feeds, uploading of supplier and banking documents, online invoicing, mobile integration, lodgement of activity to the ATO.

Kind regards,
Steven
