Re: Cannot change serial number after windows update, cannot verify company file on 2020.1 update

Hi there,

I have been running Premier 19, but the subscription was cancelled recently by the previous owner of the business.

I have called and paid for a new serial number, but I cannot open the old version to update it after the latest window update for Windows 10.

I downloaded new upgrade, but cannot change the serial number or verify the company file because of the above.

When I upgraded I sent the file to go online, but have received a message that I need to make a stock adjustment and to begin the upgrade again.

I also have unprocessed payments that I could not process due to the above.

I have attached all the messages I have been seeing, my IT guys were not able to help with removing the windows update either.

Help!!

Re: Cannot change serial number after windows update, cannot verify company file on 2020.1 update

Hi @Kirsty_Whyte

With respect to the App blocked for protection message, do check out AccountRight Classic (v19): This app has been blocked for your protection. There are other threads that do offer alternative solutions that we do recommend speaking to an IT specialist in regards to.

In terms of AccountRight 20xx, based on the message you are receiving it sounds like the company file is a Premier file. You can check this via Help>>About AccountRight - Product if that does show AccountRight Premier it will be a Premier based file. I understand based on your post and the message you are getting that you are licenced for AccountRight Plus. As Premier is a higher version of Plus you would not be able to confirm the file or change the company file to be a Plus file. As such, the options you would be looking at would be:

  • Upgrading your licence to be AccountRight Premier and thus you would be able to change the company file to that version of the software
  • Get the balances as at x date in that AccountRight Premier file. You would then need to start a new company file with AccountRight Plus and enter that historical balance information through the Easy Setup Assistant or Setup>>Balances.

Kind regards,
Steven
