Job options for the uneducated, unmarketable, and un-young?
I work a physical job that pays $60K with benefits and a defined benefit pension. I'm mostly content with it but I question my future there for various reasons, my durability being a big one. I'm into my 40s armed with only a high school diploma.
I'd like to have a backup plan that I can chip away at. The short term goal would be to learn something new and work part time; the long term plan would be to replace my current gig in the event my body begins to fail.
I'm putting my wife through school and I foot 100% of the bills so any courses I take would probably have to be from home. I'm interested in technology and am strong in creative writing and people skills so, yeah, not a lot to work with here. Working from home would be ideal.
I am completely out of touch with the job market and what could be available or possible. I'm interested in all options as this will likely have to be more about practically than passion. Has anyone here successfully changed careers this late with so little?
