Kiwisaver for WT Contractors in MYOB Essentials

I have a Contractor on a WT tax code asking if I can take kiwisaver from their pay.

When I go to the kiwisaver tab under that employee in essentials payroll, the Kiwisaver option is unavailable.

It brings up a message saying kiwisaver is not compulsory for WT / NSW tax codes. I know it's not compulsory but why isn't it an option anyway?

Re: Kiwisaver for WT Contractors in MYOB Essentials

Hi @Meniscus

From my understanding after reading the IRD Website: Employees exempt from automatic enrolment, that contractors can contribute to KiwiSaver but it is through the scheme provider directly. Employers are not required to make deductions.

Contractors

Contractors who appear on the employer monthly schedule (WT tax code etc) are not employees and are treated as self-employed people under KiwiSaver. This means they are not automatically enrolled and can only join by contracting directly with a scheme provider.

Do not make KiwiSaver deductions from their pay or include payments (employee contributions or employer contributions) on the employer monthly schedul

Kind regards,
Steven
