Using V8 - did a backup but when i tried to open got "cannot open database created with previous version of your application"?

Generally speaking if you have backed the file up in one particular version, say RetailManager v9, then you need to use the same version to restore the file. If you were using a previous version like RetailManager v8 to try and restore the file then the file wouldn’t be able to be restored as the databases do change slightly from one version to another.

We have stayed using the same version 8 but what has changed is the Windows. As soon as the company updated Windows we started having this issue.
If the error has occurred after upgrading your Windows system, then that could suggest a compatibility issue. Given the age of RetailManager v8, at best it would be compatible with Windows XP and nothing newer. Operating a program on an incompatible operating system is not supported by MYOB.
As newer operating systems do perform differently, if the program hadn’t been tested and certified as compatible then it may not operate as expected. Compatibility errors generally can only be resolved by operating the program in the environment that it has been tested as compatible with or upgrading the program to a version compatible with the current operating system on that computer
