How to open an old MYOB file

I need to open MYOB and MYOB FirstEdge files from way back around 2006 and no longer use MYOB.  I used to use PC but changed over to Mac, maybe 15 years ago.

Now retired, I don't need to use any accounting software. There is no accounting software on my computer now. However, I want to see the information on these old archived files. Is there software available to open these files?

Cheers, please help

Re: How to open an old MYOB file

Hi @Blazingwheels

FirstEdge is a very old product, it was later equivalent product AccountEdge is also no longer supported. Having said that, if you are using MAC now you can try upgrading your FirstEdge file to 1 of the later versions of AccountEdge, the file will not pass the file confirmation process in the later version, but you should still be able to open the file in Read Only to view information.

You can download the AccountEdge versions from this Downloads page, then following the guide on this Help page to upgrade the file: Installing and upgrading to the latest AccountEdge. I'd highly recommend making a backup/copy of your FirstEdge file before upgrading it, once upgraded it cannot be downgraded.

Kind regards,
Clover

Re: How to open an old MYOB file

Thanks Clover, you're right, it's a very old product and, to make things worse, recently I upgraded to Mac OS Monterey, which is no longer compliant with Account Edge Basic V6. I followed your suggestion and found that the software operates only with older versions, those before Catalina and Big Sur.

My old laptop gave up the ghost and died so I splashed out and bought the latest model MacBook Air and latest software. I'll have to find some other way to open old files.

Kind regards
