Software keeps closing

I'm trying to enter a miscellaneous invoice so that I can write off a bad debt.  I've gone into the form, entered the informaiton and then when I hit 'record' the software closes and the transaction isn't recorded.  This is really frustrating and I need some tech support please.

Because I took a note of the journal number and when I re-open the software it doesn't exist!

Did also take note of the date that you entered on the miscellaneous invoice?

 

If so then did your date range from and to include that date when you searched the Sales Journal?

 

Could you also tell us what version of AccountEdge Pro are you using?

 

I've presumed that your miscellaneous invoice amount total is a negative amount (eg -$44.00).

Hi Tony, thanks for following up.  

 

Yes, I searched for the journal entry on the date I tried to create the misc invoice and there was no record of it.  Also, when I tried a second time to create the invoice, the sales journal number generated by the software was the same, which would indicate the previous entry had not been recorded in the system.  

 

I'm using Account Edge Basic. 

 

The invoice total had a negative number (-$30) and it is recorded against an expense account titled 'bad debts'.

You wouldn't by any chance be using Account Edge Basic Version 4.0?

 

It's the only version I have'nt tested in my attempt to recreate your issue.

Do you use short-cut keys?

 

For instance if you pressed command+O, under normal circumstances, your company file would close and you would be prompted to open another file.

Hi Tony,  Thanks for trying.

 

It's Account Edge Basic v2.  

 

Interestingly, I successfully created a misc account and followed exactly the same process for a different client prior to encountering the problem and that worked fine.  In fact I've done the same process several times over the past few months without any problem.  But for some reason it just doesn't like this particular transaction.  

 

I've shut down the software and re-booted my Mac to see if that makes any difference but it doesn't.  I don't really want to try it with another client because I don't want a credit in my system that shouldn't be there, but any advice you can offer would be helpful.

I can see that you've called our technical support today, who have found corruptions in your file that seem to be causing problems when recording this transaction. As discussed our datafile repair team should be able to assist you with this. If there's anything else we can help you with, please let us know.
