Check Payroll Details - TFN not applicable

When we create an invoice we use the Salesperson field for clients who gave us the work as this works well for our reporting purposes. To do this we have set up our clients as employees.

When we go into - Payroll reporting to the ATO  - and we check payroll details for all these clients we get

Tax File Number is Invalid

Obviously the TFN field is not valid for these clients so we are looking for a way to work around this?

Thank you

Re: Check Payroll Details - TFN not applicable

Hi @Janejane

The Check Payroll Details validator would confirm ALL Card Files if they have the relevant details as per ATO Spec.

However in your case, as the STP service won't send Payroll Reports out for any Employee Card with the Employment Status as: Other, I would recommend setting this in the relevant Employee Cards and enter the TFN: 000 000 000

This is a default TFN that indicates that the Employee Card is:

Payee chooses not to quote a TFN and has not claimed an exemption from quoting a TFN or does not fit into any of the above categories.

Once you have fixed up the Cards from the Check Payroll Details validator, then these Employee Cards won't be sent out with the STP reports.

If you have a lot of Cards that need updating you could export this information and update in Excel to bulk import & update the data. Here's a good few support notes that can take you through that:

Let us know if you have any questions on this.
