Whether you sell items or invoice customers for services you provide, you can now choose the invoice and quote layout that best suits your business.

So stay with the existing Items and services layout if you want to continue to enter items, hours and quantities on your invoices.

Or choose the new Services layout if you want a cleaner invoice where you can simply add whatever information you like to the Description field, and banish the item column forever.

Choosing your layout

On the Invoice and quote settings page, the new Layout type tab allows you to choose your preferred layout and see a preview of what your invoices and quotes will look like. If you're not sure which layout to choose, there's some extra info on the page to help you decide.

Whatever you choose will be used for all your invoices and quotes until you change it. You won't be able to change the layout while you're entering an invoice or quote, so it's a good idea to remember where you made this selection.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback and to those who completed our UX designers survey about the new layout. Let us know what you think of it.

Hi @Maria_Giacosa and @Kerry_Black,

Thanks for being patient while we were ironing our technical issues. The images should be working now, so you should be able to take a look.

Thanks,

Kylie

Hi,

thanks for adding the services only option.  As I am a consulting business I really appreciate this development. I would also like to see a separate column to enter dates because most of my invoices consist of hours.  I would like to be able to add the date in one column and then the task description in a separate column next to it rather than having to separate date and description with a hyphen in the same box.

Thanks,

Eckhard

Hi,

I would like to be able to have an option to add items in at a cost price, then have an option to vary the mark up as a percentage within the quote template.

Question,

How would you search for line items in the new services?  For example if I put in "Delivery of XYZ project" and six months later wanted to find that client invoice amongst a million others, how would I search for it?

Cheers

Andrew

Hello @mckenzieaj

Unfortunately there isn't currently a way easily search for an invoice by the invoice lines. If you'd like  to see this in a future update, I recommend that you make his suggestion via our idea exchange. This will allow other users to vote for your idea if they would find it useful, and for you to track the progress of your suggestion.

Hi, is it possible to change the qty from 6 figures to 7 figures?  The way we do our invoicing is based on a % of the total value of the job..... and some jobs run into the millions.

Thank you for your enquiry @JohannaD

Currently in Essentials you can only enter a 6 digit number and 4 decimal places in the Quantity field. I would encourage you to post it as an idea on the Essentials Idea Exchange board, so other interested users can vote on this idea and leave comments if required.

I was hoping to keep one of my clients on myob but the only option which is not platform dependent in MYOB Essentials (we use both PCs and Macs).  Unfortunately the lack of customisation of invoices may push us in Xero (which I do not like).  ALthough Xero's customisation is also very limited, at least they allow you to create and save several invoice templates ("themes") and you can choose which one to use for a particular invoice. In MYOB Essentials we're stuck with the latest "customisation" and need to reset the customisation each time if we want a different format.

Is there any hope that MYOB Essentials will improve the customisation SOON? If not I will reluctantly move this client to Xero.

Hi @PierreTen

MYOB Essentials allows you to select a Style and Theme for your invoices this is done via the Invoice and quote setting option in your Setting Menu (Business Name in the top right). From within this window you can set your logo location, add in Business details and set a theme. For more information into process please see Help Article: Invoice and quote settings

If you would like to see further customising of your invoices you might like to show your support for MYOB LIVE customised forms and templates on the MYOB Essentials Idea Exchange. You can you can show your support for this idea, and others on the MYOB Essentials Idea Exchange, using the + VOTE button to the left of the idea's name.

Thank you for your reply Steven_M, but I knew about the customisation, logos etc . The problem is that it keeps your last customisation as the default setup for invoices, so if you want a different layout for a particular invoice you need to go back to the settings to change it (and then this becomes the default for future invoices, which you may not want!).

My customer needs to have two different layouts for invoices, depending on the nature of the invoice.  I have found that in Xero you can save the different customised layouts, give them a name of your choice.  Then all you need to do when creating an invoice is pick the customised invoice layout you want - no need to go back to settings.

I was hoping that myob essentials would be planning to have the same facility soon!  If that's not the case I will reluctantly need to move this customer to Xero.

Hi @PierreTen

Thank you for your additional comments.

As you have mentioned MYOB Essentials allows for one layout to be set. if you do have a different layout that you wish to use  you would need to change the Invoice and Quote settings to be that new theme/layout thus making it the default going forward.

I would recommend if you would like to see the ability for a theme to be remembered and selected as a feature in MYOB Essentials that you place it as an idea on the MYOB Essentials Idea Exchange. This would allow others in the MYOB Community a chance to vote and discuss its possible inclusion in future updates.

Hi we have a construction business and have just changed from Account Edge Pro to Essentials. You could customise your invoices in Account edge pro. and i would like to be able to do this in Essentials as well. The new invoice looks good but we need to be able to add a description of where the job was done and what date it was preformed.  So a mix of the "Items & Services" & just "Services" invoices.

So i need to be able to add for example - 5 Griffin Road, Gordonvale - Slab - 11 October 2016.

Hi @Alayne

Welcome to the MYOB Community Forum, I hope you find it a wealth of useful information.

When you are entering an invoice into MYOB Essentials, just above the Print and Send buttons is a Notes to Customer box. This free text box acts as something of a miscellaneous box that you can use to record other information for your customer.

The Notes to Customer box does appear on the invoice, so if you needed to reflect other information that the client needs to know then you can use this box.

Please feel free to post any other questions that you may have.

I need to add a deposit or prevoiusly paid line to the invoice hence it will subtract from total invoice. Could you please advise if this is possible ?
