A week or so ago, when you logged in, you'd have seen the new dashboard in LiveAccounts. Well, it appears that those of you who've seen it, love it. 85% of you have adopted it as your new 'go to' for your business information. So, we've gone with the majority, and the new dashboard is now a permanent fixture.

What's so good about the new dashboard?

Well, apart from its 'dashing' new good looks, you mean? (Did you see what I did there?) Call me shallow, but looks matter, and wow didn't everyone do a lovely job of making over the dashboard. Nice work everyone involved!

I could go on about how it's so much easier to read now that we've got more white space, how much more elegant it looks and how the layout makes it easy to see how everything is related, but you can see this for yourself.

Cosmetic enhancements aside, the dashboard has also undergone an upgrade in the smarts department, so now you've got even better information at your fingertips. You can instantly see what's coming in to your business, what's going out and what your bank account and credit card balances look like. You know, the stuff you need to check regularly to make sure the business can actually run.

money_in_money_out.png

And when you want more information, like your individual account balances in banking, just click the arrow to see more.

bank_info.png

Then we've got breakdowns on the money owed to you - so you can get an idea of how long your customers are taking to pay you (and whether you should be giving them a little call to follow up on that promised payment).

invoices_owed.png

By the way, if your data looks like my example, I'd recommend more than just giving the outstanding invoice owners a call!

Plus, you can now set a sales target for the month. Then, keep yourself accountable by instantly being able to see how much more invoicing you need to do to meet your target.

sales_target.png

And if you're a LiveAccounts newbie (welcome, by the way) there's a new section of the dashboard totally dedicated to helping you get the most out of your software.

It'll tell you what you need to do to complete your profile, and help you with all your setting up tasks, from entering your personal and business details through to customising your invoices and quotes. Just click the link to the section you want to work on and fill in the details... so easy.

profile.png

So, now that I've shared my love for the new dashboard, let us know what you love about it. Oh, and if you're one of the 15% who wanted to stick with the old dashboard - drop me a line and let me know why. I'd love to hear.

Hi @AnnandaleHair ,

Thanks for commenting - I'm keen to hear why people wanted to stick with the old dashboard, and the lack of cents seems to be the main reason so far.

The LiveAccounts dashboard is really about giving you the facts you need to make better decisions for your business. So, the decision was made to go with rounded figures. Essentially, the dashboard should let you know quickly whether you have $12,000 or $22,000 dollars in your bank. Cents add extra noise to this, making it harder to see.

Having said that, the lack of cents makes is hard if you use the dashboard as a reconciliation tool.

The dashboard will be continually evolving, in response to feedback such as this. So, thanks heaps for sharing.

We appreciate everyone who lets us know what they like and don't like about LiveAccounts so we can continually improve the product.

Cheers,

Merrin

I feel that this change is pushed through and 85% of the people may have looked at the new dashboard (like I did), but to me and for our business the information is not so relevant as MYOB thinks it may be.

The point of software with live bank feeds is that the bank account is the focal point of the software and the movements of the debtors and creditors ledgers. On the dashboard I expect to see full information of the bank account status and from there, I want to be able to immediately start allocating transactions to invoices or accounts.

For example we have a business that generates sales invoices every day, but in terms of expenditure we could nearly do with a cash book type accounting system, so the information on the new dashboard is pretty useless to us in that respect. And the sales info provided on the new dashboard is also not relevant to our particular business. The bank account and credit card account information seems much less detailed, so overall the new dashboard is a huge step backwards for us.

What we urgently do need to see is if the bank balance equals the bank account as was mentioned in a previous post. On the whole I much preferred the old dashboard, it looked cleaner and was more informative, the new dashboard has no accents or focal points and makes it look boring, like a phone directory. It tries to do everything, but in the end achieves very little. PLEASE PLEASE give us the old dashboard back. We had that option last week, why not give people more options, especially if you change the dashboard so drastically.

And may I offer the MYOB developers some advice.... In another capacity I use Xero, which is pretty slick. Just follow the same path and charge half their subscription costs, because not a lot of resources have to go into new development that way. And if this remark irks you in some way then I have just conveyed how I feel about the new dashboard change that has been forced upon us. Not such a good start with my very recently started subscription to MYOB....

I would also like the bank balance that used to be there. This could even be improved by saying the last transaction date that had been pulled in or the last time that the bank feed pull was done. I use this around the start of months to work out if I can do a GST Report yet.

I would also like to be able to customise the dashboard a bit. Specifically being able to change the sales target month makes sense as my invoices are created last day of the month so the value is always 0 for basically the entire month.

If I could turn some of the boxes that I don't find useful off so I can customise it for what is relevant to me that would be even better.

Hi @Lumens and @xF3hGX9CEJCn

Thanks for taking the time to comment on the blog - the more we hear from you (the people using the software) the more we get how you use it, and how what we change affects you, so feedback like this is really important to us.

We're hearing that for some of you the bank balance is a real focal point of the dashboard, pleased stay tuned, the dashboard is continually evolving.

Thanks again for the feedback - love hearing what makes you happy (or in this case, not so happy) with the software,

Merrin

Hi @Merrin,

Thanks for the reply.

One other thing that might seem small but I do find it strange to not have "exact" figures when trying to do the accounting, I hear what you say re simplicity but when I am on Live Accounts I am in a dot i's and cross t's frame of mind.

BTW the direction of the design is nicer, i.e. white space and cleaner its just the function that has become muddled for me which makes any effort for "design" a bit wasted.

No worries @xF3hGX9CEJCn . I'm genuinely interested to hear what's liked and not so liked.

Something I probably didn't stress in the post and the comments is that the individual bank account balances (albeit, without cents) can be seen by clicking the grey arrow beside the total amount in the bank.

Anyway, thanks again for the feedback.

Hi Merrin
Unfortunately I am another that preferred the old dashborard. 99.9% of my sales are cash sales so anything to do with invoices or receivables is irrelevant. All income is picked up from deposits from the bank feeds and the details of the sales are maintained in the specialised salon POS software used in store.

The charts on the old dashboard had potential but they contained irrelevant information - top 5 expenses since file inception with no regard to financial years. Really? Since when have finacial years been irrelevant for accounting information. For whatever reason these were scrapped entirely instead of improved.

Additionally the bank balance and feed information allowed a reconciliation "at a glance".

It would be great to have "live" dashboard that has spaces where the user could choose what information to display from a set list. based on earlier comments it seems this is a somewhat common theme too.

On the plus side the improvements made to reporting a few months ago were a step in the right direction. The only additional reports that would be helpful are a cash flow statement and comparative reports. At the moment I need to prepare these manually and while I have an excel template that makes it relatively simple, it would be much easier to generate them directly from the software.

Overall I'm sorry to say that, for now, the dashboard has gone from some relevant information and other parts with potential to completely irrelevant.

Hi @Joof ,

Not unfortunate at all that you like the way things were presented on the old dashboard - it's great to hear from people about how they like to see their information. Sometimes it's not until we turn something off that we get to hear about it.

Being able to customise dashboards is always a winning idea, as there's always lots of things that some people would like added to the dashboard, but not everyone necessarily wants it. For evidence of this, check out the Ideas Exchange. Oh, and feel free to add more there, too.

Really nice of you to add that you like what we've done with reports.

I'm sharing all this feedback with the rest of the team and loving hearing from you all.

Thanks heaps for taking the time to send through your thoughts,

Merrin

Could we please have the old dashboard option back. The old dashboard showed us the correct bank balances in MYOB and the bank also cradit card balances. Now ew have to go to the bank to see if we balance, and we need to check off the credit card statements. Whereas before this information was right there in front of us as soon as we signed in.  Whereever did you gert the idea that we do not need this information. Also round figures are not for todays accounting.

I also don't use all the facilities that now take up the entire home screen, if you want them or not. While many/most people may use them, we use MYOB just for taxation purposes and balancing bank feed. We have other softeware that is integrated to our website for invoices and expenses.

We should be able to remove items from the home screen that are never used, like it was when we evaulated it.

Hi @charlesspain ,

Thanks for taking the time to read the blog and respond.

The current dashboard does still show your individual bank account balances, it's just a little more hidden than on the old dashboard (and albeit without the cents.) You can still check out your individual bank account and credit card balances by clicking the arrow next to the total.

I know this is a change from the old dashboard, and really do appreciate the feedback that it's not ideal for you.

Thanks again for letting us know,

Merrin

Hi Peter ( @CaravansPlus ),

Good to hear from you.

I think the ability to customise the dashboard is a winner of an idea and definitely a popular one, so thanks for letting us know that you'd also like it. Just loving hearing all this great feedback from everyone.

Please feel free to add your voice to anyone elses at the Ideas Exchange too, if you like.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on the blog,

Merrin

Merrin you have just not read my message. I can see the individual bank balances but the old dashboard had two figures. One was the MYOB figure and the other was the bank figure. If they were the same then everything was fine. If they were not the same then we had to check the feeds. The new system does not give us this, either for the banks or the credit cards. Now why would you change what was such a good system. Now I have to double check everything whereas before it was right there as soon as we openned the dashbard. Why did you not discuss this with users before you made the change. The new dashboard is a failure.

Hi @charlesspain ,

My apologies. I was just reading your other comment on the "Introducing the dashboard" blog, which was more detailed, so sorry for not quite grasping that you really liked the ability to compare the MYOB account balance with the bank balance. I'm with you now.

We do run all our changes through user testing. And allowing the option to toggle between the dashboards was also a confirmation test. We're actively discussing all the feedback we're getting, and it's definitely being used to guide us in continuing to improve the dashboard.

So, thanks for sending yours through. It's great to hear how you use your software in your business.

Thanks,

Merrin

Sorry but the dashboard is not good and display too much eroneous or incorrect information... please can I change back to the old one....

ps what is the issue with IE 11?  sis you not know it was coming?

Lumens

The issue raised and best worded by Charlesspain about having the MYOB bank balance and the actual bank balance on the old dashboard reduced to just the MYOB bank balance on the new dashboard, now requires that I additionally need to log in to our bank website to check the actual bank balance. Whereas before this information was readily available from the the (old) MYOB dashboard.

This is clearly a loss of functionality.

I am actually not that fussed about what the dashboard looks like, but I can't quite understand how so many people are ok with losing a useful (and in my opinion necessary when it comes to live feeds) function like that. I am still hoping that MYOB will urgently address this, either by reinstating the old dashboard or by changing this on the new dashboard.

So perhaps we could get a insight from the 85% who prefer the new dashboard over the old one as to why this particular issue doesn't bother them or why they prefer it even.

Anyone?

Thx

Rene

I really love this product! So first up, awesome work guys!

On the Dashboard tweeks though,I really need to add the chorus about Bank Feeds loss of functionality. And I miss some really important *info* that was on the old Dashboard.

Like Rene, I really miss the panel giving me the live feed info (last reconciled, actual $ balances, etc) for all my accounts in a glance (no click through/drop down/etc). This was the only reason that I kept switching to the old Dashboard.

Of the 9 dropdowns that are offered, I only really care about having four of them on my login Dashboard, but I *really* care about those ones, so I'd like the option to show them auto expanded or just presented flat in a box (so I can see balance on all linked accounts/cards, super AND PAYG owing, with the cents, etc).

Since that Bank Feed info really is a loss of functionality, any chance we could get some kind of quick workaround to get that info back?

Loving your work guys!

Glen.

Hi Rene ( @Lumens) and Glen (@glen_a_smith ),

Thanks for adding your comments and voices again to this dashboard discussion. And thanks to everyone for their patience.

This morning, I've been talking to our product owner about the frustration you all have about losing this really loved section of the dashboard, and he's onto it. So stayed tuned - I'll be updating you all as I learn more.

Rene, you've so elegantly put your finger on our biggest issue, we had 85% of people who were perfectly happy to let this data go without making a noise, and it wasn't until we switched the functionality off that we heard that it wasn't ok.

This means we're perhaps missing a section of our userbase in our user testing. If anyone would be interested in being part of our user testing, please feel free to send me a private message.

(@charlesspain and @AnnandaleHair , I'd love to include you in possible user testing for future dashboard enhancements too.)

I'll be back with an update later.

Thanks,

Merrin

To me it is a no brainer that there should be a quick and easy place to see whether the AR Live Balance is the same or different to the Bank Balance (as per the bank).

Have to agree with all the comments above. While I had the new dashboard up the majority of the time I switched back to check the last date of my bank feeds nearly every time I logged on to see if I had to log into my bank account to double check balances. I also only invoice at the end of the month so I have zero for all but one day in the "Invoice Issued"

It is great to improve the product however there are numerous requests to improve the funcitonality of the application from a number of people with some really excellent suggestions.

One suggest is to have your developers work on supplying additional functionallity rather than changing what already works.

PS I would love to be part of a pilot of any future upgrades / changes and provide feedback before rolling out to all.

Good morning.

Just wanted to let you all know what we're up to with regards to the dashboard.

We're currently going out with in-product surveys to find out more about how users feel about the dashboard changes.

We'll be combining the results of this survey with your blog comments and other community forum responses. We'll then prioritise based on the feedback to find what we need to act on to provide the most value to the greatest customer base.

Your feedback in definitely included in this, and I'll let keep you posted with the results.

Thanks again for your passion,

Merrin

Hi, probably already adding to the chorus of criticisisms, but the new look does not give the detail I need. The one glance to see my bank balances and some other detail without the drop down boxes is the biggets gripe. Also the ability to switch back to the old dashboard would be ideal. Thanks

Hi All,

Just wanted to update you again on the dashboard. Firstly, thanks to everyone who provided constructive feedback that a much loved part of the dashboard functionality was no longer available.

It was great to be able to use your feedback to guide our decisions. We're really pleased to say that the new dashboard will now include your bank balance, and you'll see this change in your software soon.

We’ll continue to work on the dashboard, so stay tuned. Your feedback is a really vital part of how we prioritise what we work on.

So, thank you once again, and please keep it coming.

Hi Merrin

I agree with the crowd. I liked the old dashboard. I definitely don't like the current dashboard.

At a glance, the old dashboard told me when my BAS was due and how much to pay.

The old dashboard may have needed some tweeking, as others have suggested but it did not need scrapping.

The name dashboard indicates that you can quickly look at it and to gleen relevant information easily.

Hi @skypilot

Thanks for providing some more feedback here about how much you liked the dashboard information regarding when your BAS was due and how much you were expecting to pay/receive.

We've just been through a round of user testing here, and it still surprises me at times just how differently everyone uses LiveAccounts and what information is therefore "dashboard worthy".

Every little bit of feedback is great, so thanks for sharing yours. It's really appreciated. You're not the first to say that you liked the reminder (of sorts) about BAS.

If you'd like to be involved in user testing, please drop me a private message.

Hi,

I like the dashboard, but I would like the option to edit it. For example my business doesn't use credit cards so I would like to remove the credit card account box from the dashboard. I would also like to display a second sales target for year progressed so far as there are some months that are more profitable than others depending on the season.

Hi Mark (@Brisbaneroofer)

Thanks for leaving a comment on the blog. Customising the dashboard is still a much requested feature, so thanks for adding your voice. Everyone uses the dashboard so differently, so it's great to hear what you'd like to be able to include and remove.

Cheers,

M
