Business basics v1 serial number

I've been using BB1 for years, computer died so I downloaded BBasics 1 on to new computer but I've lost the original disc and serial number, all I have is my registrstion no. I called myob customer service with reg.no., email, business name but I don't seem to exist. Is there a way to get it going again?

Hi @Freeway 

Did you have any backups on a USB or any other media? If so, then you won't need your SN to restore the file as the Registration number will be in the file once you Restore it.

If you don't have any backups, have you asked an IT specialist to see if you can recover a file or backup - they sometimes can?

Thanks Liz. I have a backup on an external drive, the old computer is actually still working in it's own sad way, but I had to install bb1 on the new one first to either transfer the files or set up again but it requires serial number to do so. I don't know how that works, it's offline so I don't see how my existing sreral no.relates

Hi @Freeway 

Once you have downloaded the programme, you should be able to copy the .dat file to the new computer and then open it up using the BBasics.exe executable file. You don't need the Serial Number for the file as it has already been registered when you first created it. If you need to Restore a .zip, then create a file without Registering it and then go to File, Restore and Restore your file to a folder on your system and continue processing from there. The programme doesn't get registered - the file does and you have already done this.

Make sure your have definitely downloaded the correct Legacy version of Business Basics v1 as well.

Hi @Freeway  and @Liz_A 

MYOB does prompt you for a serial number when you finish the installation - however this is not for registration purposes - it is just for convenience so MYOB can prefill the serial number for when you try to Activate a new file. You can ignore or cancel that serial number popup - it will not affect your use of the software. As @Liz_A  mentioned as soon as you open your file it will pick up the serial number from there.
