Create New Bill from In Tray - Source Document opening as a tab in browser

Hi

I am relatively new to using MYOB AccountRight so this may be a simple fix.  Not sure if this is part of the latest upgrade of if I have accidentally changed a setting.

I used to be able to create a new bill from my In Tray and double click the souce document to have it appear on the side and it would stay there while I entered my purchase information then I'd close it once I have finished creating the bill.  Now when I double click the source document, it opens as a new tab in a browser and when I click away from it to enter the purchase information the browser minimises to the bottom of my screen.

I asked via live chat and was instructed to resize the screens so they are side by side but this didn't fix it.  I am using Windows on a Parallels desktop on my Mac.

Could someone please let me know what I have done and how it can be fixed?  Thanks in advance KF2

  • Hi KF2

As part of 2020.1 there was a change to the way AccountRight views the PDF's by launching the PDF attachment in the System's Default PDF Viewer.

This was implemented by client requests for the ability to view the PDF's in their familiar PDF Readers as well as the ability to separate the PDF and AccountRight windows for use across different screens and the ability to change between Windows with the Alt + Tab Keyboard Shortcut.

If it's opening as a Tab in a browser, then it would see that the browser is set up as the PDF Reader for the System.

Assuming this is a Windows 10 installation set up in Parallels you can change the program that opens these PDF's in the Default Apps Settings. See this Support Article from Microsoft: Change default programs in Windows 10

Note: You would want to look for Choose default apps by file type

        Hi yas82

If you're on the window where you can choose the app by file type, you would need to find the .pdf file type in the list.

This would be showing the file types in alphabetical order so it would involve a little bit of scrolling to find it.

Example of what it would look like:

When you find it, click the program it's on (In my case Adobe Acrobat Reader DC) and this will let you choose the next application.

For example, if you had Microsoft Edge listed here you can swap it to Adobe Reader.

Hope this helps, let me know if you're having any troubles.

        Hi KarleneP

This was the result of several different client requests (I combined most of them in my original reply), but it was also solving a bug we had in the old PDF Reader where it would not read from PDF's generated with some newer features and ended up just showing blank PDF's or missing information when you viewed them.

The workaround at the time was that it needed to be downloaded and viewed and some of the users we contacted on this were happy if it just launched in those PDF Viewers directly which tied in perfectly with the pre-existing feature requests and was aimed as a all in one fix.

That said, this isn't the final design of this feature. There are still plans to give this whole workflow an overhaul, though we haven't begun setting anything in stone so there isn't an ETA just yet.
