Banking: Creation of Direct Debit bank file

We have recently migrated to MYOB and find that the processing of recurring invoices somewhat less automated than the product we were using.

It would be helpful if a batch or recurring invoices could be automatically generated based on due date and perhaps some type of clieng grouping (Filter).

There also apeears to be no facility for creating a Direct Debit bank file.

Although Direct credit payments can be created as a bank file to pay our creditors. There is no ability to create a file for the Direct Debiting of our debtors.

I can confirm the layout is particularly similar to the DC afi file MYOB creates.

Our position is the invoices are all emailed and all payments are by direct debit of the client account

  • We have many clients who choose to pay us by direct debit. It would be a great idea if AccountRight 2020 was able to generate a bank file (amounts owing by our direct debit clients) that we could lodge online with our bank. Otherwise we are forced to purchase additional software to do this seemingly straightforward task.

Yes, this would be very useful and should be fairly straightforward for MYOB to implement since it is just creating an ABA file with the Direct Credit & Direct Debit codes reversed.

  • Hi

There is an MYOB Addon called DirectDebitLink that allows you to create a Direct Debit ABA file from MYOB. It works in a similar way to direct credit payments in MYOB

Details can be found at www.accountingaddons.com.au

  • Hi

Is is possible to add the ability to create Direct Debit batches (for customers) for uploading to the Bank, like we are able to do for supplier payments?

Sometimes the direct debit amount from a customer's bank account changes each period (eg weekly, monthly) and the new amount due needs to be uploaded to the bank for deduction from the customer's bank account.

    Thanks

    M

      Hi Marion,

Have a look at our add-on product to MYOB called DirectDebitsLink. You can check it out here.

      http://accountingaddons.com.au/directdebitslink/

      It comes in two edition.

      • One free which allows you to produce the ABA file you need.
      • And one paid edition which can also streamline the use of recording customer payments.

I hope this helps you out.

      Best of luck.

      Hi Marion,

As a heads up, the best approach when it comes to the frequency, is simply to create multiple types of payment methods (our videos should hopefully explain some of that, espcially the configuring myob video).

You can then have one payment method for Weekly DD and one of Monthly DD. Asign the correct payment method to the customer and our product should filter stuff out when you go to record customer payments.

Finally, the product can also be customised (with costs) to push it even further and work exactly as you intend to drive it.

      Best of luck.

Thanks for the idea of adding a Direct debit feature. As Accounting Addon mentioned there are some 3rd party programs that can assist you with this process and even integrate with your current software. You can view the available addons through http://www.myob.com.au/aos If users would like to see this functionality within the software, we would love to see some more votes.

The ability to create an .ABA file for bulk payments by Clients/customers must be an important inclusion for MYOB. Working within the Aged Care industry, clients are ALL signed up for Direct Debit from their bank account, with some banks offering a software program. We have been instructed to "deal with your accounting program" to create this file and have found MYOB to again be lacking in this important requirement.

  • Just going through this at the moment - MYOB can't do the income side ABA file, so having to manually enter each time into the bank software platform. This bank platform you can either upload or create, it would be so nice just to upload. Banks used to do Direct Debits automatically but all has changed in the banking world and now we need to authorise it every time.

  • We are small Not for profit entity,  creating ABA file for Direct Debit would save us big time. At present we are  punching in 100 plus small payments for direct debits to Bendigo Bank platform. Bank has the option to upload ABA file but we cannot create a ABA file within MYOB. Third-party add-ons are expensive .

    Please consider adding this option.

    Thanks
