Inventory: Copy Item - copy all item data

Can you guys please put in an instant "Copy Item" button next to the "Copy From" button?

I am sure many Users would find the ability to copy all data from an existing Item to create a New Item, and then just modify the data as needed to update it to make the new Item.

Bit like the Recurring function- Just instant.

 

You wouldn't be able to save it as the original Item Number as the system will tell you that one already exists. Hence it forces you to at least create a new Item Number.

    Hi MYOB

    with the items you should have a button that can create a duplicate item from the current item that you have open.

    as we're using skus for sizes it would be easier to create another size as an exact copy from the current.

    eg Anthony-SizeSmall ----> press a button at the bottom "duplicate this product" -----a new window is opened up and i can create Anthony-SizeMedium

    i know copy from is similar but the duplicate can carry over descriptions, locations, manufacturers etc

      It is true that the 'Copy From' functionality in AR201X does not do a 'true copy'.

       

      Therefore the existing 'Copy From' functionality should behave appropriately and do a full copy with the exception of 'Item Number'.

      It is only in that context that my vote has been given to this idea.

       

      Is that fair enough?

      Totally agree. I know Quickbooks (Reckon Accounts) can do this but not MYOB. I sell trophies with many different versions with slight differences between each such as size or the figurine on top. It is a realy pain having to re-type everything again and keep the format similar.

      I use Cut/Paste for the description, but would much prefer being able to copy over a complete record and then make the changes as required.

      Hi CartonConcepts 

      The other option would be to setup one item how you want it, go to File>>Import and Export Assistant>>Select to Export data and then Items. Follow through the process, this is going to create a txt file which can be opened in Excel where you can add in the other record/s based off the existing record. When happy, save it as a text file and then importing it back into the company file using the File>>Import and Export Assistant>>Import data>>Items option. Its recommend that you take a backup before the importing process as well. For more information into importing and exporting take a look at importing and exporting data

      It would be great if the program could in fact complete this process itself and I would encourage other users to vote and comment on the idea as required.

    +1 because some of our items are almost identical to ones already in the system, re-entering data just becomes an unnecessary waste of time if there is potentially software that can do it for us.

    Thank you for your idea in regards to AccountRight and creating items by copying.

    Currently the Copy from option will copy the item's details onto a new item. Please note that item number, name, supplier item number, auto-build information and item history will not be copied across.

    I would encourage other users that would like an "instant" copy of another item to vote and comment if required for this idea.

    Further to this suggestion- Can you also PLEASE re-install the ability to directly type/search an Item Number into the "Copy From" search. Having to manually scroll thru 12,000 Items to search for something to copy data across from is sooooo very slow.

    Hi OLKroozer

     

    You could use the Advance Search Option. This is done by selecting a line in the table and then CTRL + SHIFT + F on the keyboard.  This would allow you to search for a record with that value entered. For example if I search for "c" all values with that value:

    This Advance Search feature also works in other tables in the program as well, just make sure that you select a line in the table before selecting CTRL + SHIFT + F

    I just wish that the advanced search would work on the Card List.

    in the classic versions you could search by suburb or street, but not on the v2016.xx.

    The Advance Search feature will work on the Card Lists. However it will only search the values in the window that you are in. For example it will search the Name, Card ID, Phone Number, Type, Current Balance and Overdue fields as they are listed on the screen, it will not search values that are listed outside what is on the screen i.e. suburb, post codes, street. If you would like that functionality you might want to show your support for Searching by street address

    I think this may have been requested before? When setting up a new item can the item you want to copy from be selected from a drop down list rather than scrolling through the entire inventory to find the inventory item to copy from?

    Yep, would love this.

    Also if it was more like an Excel table so we can freeform edit stuff in bulk (like in ecommerce systems) that would be great.
