Every time they try this, they will snaffle at least 1 (probably many) who puts all client files online. Thanks for setting the other user on the right track. cheers Liz Re: MYOB desktop version Liz_A gavin12345 DF5 thanks Mike_MYOB for clearing this up. MYOB need to ensure that the Enterprise Acquisition Account team stop suggesting otherwise. "Upon retiriement of the program all the desktop files under your serial 61xxxxxxxx87 will become read only." They also need to learn to spell! FYI: My MYOB file was fully purchased 25 years ago, so I have a perpetual licence anyway irrespective of whether I then became a Professional partner. I am already actually a MYOB partner and have a partner login. Many of my clients do NOT have any employees or wage requirements as they are small sole traders with investment properties only. They have absolutely no need for the new MYOB and will not be moving to the cloud. "With cloud based software being the preferred tool for managing your business," I am an IT professional (tertiary qualifications) as well as being a registered BAS Agent, and know full well that anything stored in the cloud is vulnerable to attack or theft. My computer is fully protected and my clients would much rather their sensitive data stored at my premises rather than in the cloud. MYOB cannot claim that they have never had issues with data security. The time when at least 400 employees of businesses with online MYOB had their payment summaries sent to other people whereby total strangers could use the information for identity theft. I reported this to ATO a week later as MYOB had decided to keep the info quiet after I contacted them. ATO escalated the report and they then contacted MYOB who finally, a few weeks later, admitted there was an issue but contacted none of the businesses or employees involved, despite giving me assurances that all concerned would be contacted. I know, as it was one of my clients employees who was a victim. Neither the employee nor the business owner were ever contacted by MYOB with an apology. A side note: this wasn't actually a cyber attack, it was caused by sloppy programming by MYOB The time when MYOB managed to direct debit businesses with the superannuation twice and left many businesses with not enough funds to pay other bills until MYOB reversed the error. Also not a cyber attack but error by MYOB staff. So, again, thanks for clearing this up, but MYOB staff need to stop with the suggestions to users that MYOB online is far more secure than on their own computer with old fashioned backup to external removeable drive(not backup to cloud) and stop telling users that it is the only way to be ATO compliant for STP2. regards, Liz B Re: MYOB desktop version hi Mike_MYOB so you are telling me that this email from Vikash Jaiswal - ANZ Enterprise Acquisition Account Manager at MYOB is incorrect? Hi Elizabeth, Trust you are doing well😊 I tried reaching out to you over the phone, but I believe you were busy. The reason for my call was to provide you an important information regarding the End of Life for Bookkeeper reference program which is currently used by your practice. Upon retiriement of the program all the desktop files under your serial 61xxxxxxxx87 will become read only. Could you please let me know a suitable time to call you and discuss this? Re: MYOB desktop version Mike_MYOB The powerpoint slides used during a presentation to encourage financial advisers to start adding MYOB shares to the client portfolio sounded very much like the sky is the limit for profit once all online subscriptions There are many solutions for lodgment of STP at ATO. Two that my clients use are singletouch.com.au and STP Creator by Namich While MYOB has stopped selling desktop software, it doesn't abrogate MYOB's responsibility to allow those who use it to continue to do so. If you don't want to keep the 'confirmation' server running, just give everyone a 10yr confirmation of their file. We don't care if it isn't 'supported', but we have a right to continue to use it. and while on the subject of 'improvements' - I have no idea why anybody thinks that bank feeds make things faster. Only the very smallest of businesses may find it useful. The rest of us find it is just a waste of space. Re: MYOB desktop version so why have I been told that my paid for version from 25yrs ago is becoming invalid? I have received emails and phone calls advising that once December comes, my files will no longer be confirmed and will become read only. Myself and several other MYOB partners have received the same info. We paid for our software and were always allowed to use for any of our clients that we do in house. I only have one client who actually has payroll, so all the others will definitely just have a spreadsheet instead of using the fabulous old MYOB V19 or earlier. MYOB doesn't stand to gain anything by what they are doing to MYOB partners; in fact they stand to lose quite a lot. No longer will I recommend MYOB to any clients and I have sent many, many clients to MYOB over the years with zero compensation from MYOB as that is not my business model. I recommended purely because MYOB was the best out there. That is no longer the case, and if my MYOB V19 files become read only, I will be done and dusted with MYOB totally. Re: MYOB desktop version not true... there are 3rd party software (fully legal according to ATO) that access the payroll data from even the old classic V19 files and lodge successfully to ATO. By stopping file confirmations MYOB is breaking the licence agreement that came with the original software purchase. Stopping file confirmations does force people into the MYOB subscription model. I have many clients that still use V19 and use the 3rd party software to be fully ATO compliant. They refuse to pay MYOB a monthly fee for software when their current, fully owned, MYOB software works well and meets all ATO requirements. Re: MYOB desktop version Hi DF5 gavin12345 is correct.. MYOB's business plan, as sold to financial advisors a few years ago, is to get all MYOB users into the online monthly subscription option. Once everybody is online paying subscriptions, they can jack the price up whenever they feel like earning even more profit. If you took a backup before upgrading, go to the link that gavin12345 sent (and I sent too) to get your fully owned and paid for version working again. MYOB couldn't give a toss if you are a NFP. Believe me I tried with one of my NFP clients. regards, Liz Re: MYOB desktop version HI mistyben I hear you!. I, like yourself, I have promoted and recommended MYOB since 2001. I was an authorised reseller, but preferred to have them purchase their own directly, rather than through me. I also don't run my business to profit from software recommendations (even though I also run a computer store). I suspect that MYOB have earned literally thousands of dollars from my recommendations over the years. There is really no reason for them to stop allowing bookkeepers to use old MYOB. I also know many accountants who ask me to assist when they have a client bring in an old MYOB v18 file or similar. I also agree that the online version of MYOB has shortfalls; many, many shortfalls! It is unfortunate that you use the MYOB payroll offering for the client with payroll as there is totally legal 3rd party software that will suck the STP figures out of any MYOB file and report directly to the ATO. MYOB tried to shut it down at the start, but I suspect that someone advised MYOB that using 3rd party software with MYOB is actually NOT illegal. It is STP Creator by Namich Software. It was developed in conjuction with Michael from FGH tables I believe.. South Australian business for Australians! Very reasonable price and I had one client with about 250 complex pay employees who loved it. The FGH tables company also supply a confirmation tool for MYOB. FGH are careful to ensure that they only supply genuine users like yourself and I. We have a valid license agreement that is not being honoured by MYOB. They refuse to sell to anyone they think is just trying to use a pirate copy of MYOB. I recommend them highly to assist you in December. cheers Liz Re: MYOB desktop version Hi poppies230762 I 2nd Liz_a recommendation. Try fgh tables. Very capable and not expensive. Liz Re: MYOB desktop version hi poppies230762 I suspect that might be a totally different problem. My files are still working just fine, it was just a MYOB person phoning me to say that the files would not confirm at some time soon. Did you happen to do a Windows update just before this happened? I just found this on the forum from a couple of years ago... but it may be your problem.. Hopefully this fixes for you.. Hi Shaz Just went back and looked at previous posts re this problem and retried the following The steps outlined -Open the System Properties control panel applet (fastest method is right click Start > Run > type 'sysdm.cpl') -Go to the Advanced tab and click on Settings... under Performance. -Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab, click Add... and navigate to "Myob.exe" wherever you installed -AccountRight , (your executable file may have a different name). Press Apply and finish. My MYOB now works. :-)
