The AccountRight Desktop application does only allow for the Profit and Loss report to be generated for the current, next and past financial years. You would typically get that Invalid date message when you are attempting to run the report outside of this period*.
A user can check what financial year the company file is in via Setup>>Company Information. Should you need to adjust this to close off the current year and roll into the new year this can be done via File>>Close a financial year and follow the prompts. Do ensure that you have a backup of the company file before completing that process.
An alternative to closing that financial year is to use the AccountRight Browser interface to run that particular report. This is not governed by the next financial year requirements and can be run outside of that time period.
*I have assumed that you have non-standardised date format on your computer and it's using mm/dd/yyy as the format.
