Can't open company file

I have had issues with my old PC and am reinstalling MYOB on another PC.  I use MYOB 2016.2.  I have successfully trasferred the program and can open it however every time I try and open my company file it just gets the error message MYOB has encountered and error and must close, which of course it does.  I dont have a current subscription and the last hard disc version I have is AccountRight v19.6.1 which I could install but I am not going to be able to open upgraded company files (.myox).  Any suggestions?

Re: Can't open company file

Hi @GingerSam17,

The error that you specified sounds like the software itself is unable to load a repository or component when loading the AccountRight datafile.

We would be able to narrow down the reasons after a look into the MYOB Diagnostic Log from your computer, please find and attach the Diagnostic log to this thread so that we can look into this for you. To find the Diagnostic Log, see the instructions below:

1. Open your Start Menu

2. Type: %localappdata%

3. Open the %localappdata% folder:
temp.png

4. Open the MYOB Folder.

5. Open the AccountRight Folder.

6. Open the relevant versions folder (IE: 2018.1).

7. Open the Diagnostics Folder.

8. There should be a "Huxley.Application" file here, this is the Diagnostic Log that is created when AccountRight performs a task.

Cheers,
Hayden

Re: Can't open company file

Hi @GingerSam17

Thanks for posting that information, it was helpful in understanding what is going on with your file

Looking at that log, it does appear that AccountRight is having difficulty in locating or reading Microsoft .net framework v3.5 on your computer. Microsoft .net framework is one of a couple of Windows components that AccountRight uses when it operates.

To resolve this you would need to reinstall the .net framework v3.5 on that computer. If this is not something you are familiar with then you will need the assistance of your IT professional.

Re: Can't open company file

Hi Hayden,

This still has not resolved my issue.  I had .Net3.5 on my new PC.  I turned this off and added .Net 2.0, turned .Net 3.5 back on then installed .Net 4.0 as MYOB program asked for this.  Then it asked for .Net 4.5 so when I ckicked yes to install this is installed .Net 4.7.1.

When I restart 2016.2 I get the program open but as soon as I click on open an existing company file I get the same original error message that an error has caused program to close please contact MYOB support.

Re: Can't open company file

Hi @GingerSam17

Your error refers to sqlce 3.5 not .NET Framework 3.5 - what you need to re-install is Microsoft SQL CE v3.5 - see link here https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=5783 - this is normally installed as part of the MYOB installation.

Let us know how you get on.

Gavin

Re: Can't open company file

Hi Gavin/Hayden,

I have actually managed to resolve the issue myself.  I thought that there maybe some issue with the copied 2016.2 so I went back to my original download and re-installed - voila! I re-linked files from My Library and I am back in business.

Many thanks for your help though it was appreciated.
