Unable to export to Excel using Office 365 using Account Right 2018

Hi,

I am unable to export any reports to Excel using Office 365.

Why is this?

Do I have to have a local copy of excel to export? If so, why?

When will MYOB improve the functionality to encompass other cloud based programs?

This is a very expensive exercise considering I have already purchsed a subscription to Office 365 and now it looks like I have to purchase a local copy.

Re: Unable to export to Excel using Office 365 using Account Right 2018

yes, you will need to install Office on the computer in order for accountright to use it.

see the myob system requirements: https://www.myob.com/au/support/minimum-system-requirements

I'm not aware of many desktop applications that can send data to offsite cloud-based spreadsheet systems like excel 365 or google sheets so I'm not sure how this can be something exclusive to myob.

Re: Unable to export to Excel using Office 365 using Account Right 2018

@wmsresults@sholt73

Welcome to the MYOB Community Forum, I hope you find plenty of useful information.

I use Office 365 and run AccountRight 2018.4 and have no problem exporting to Excel.

For the linke to be setup correctly the AccountRight needs to be loaded after the Excel.

If you only upgraded and did not download the full AccountRight that might be the problem.

Try uninstalling the AccountRight - then download the full installer from your my.myob website and try to export again after it is installed.

If my response to your query and has helped, please mark my post as a solution to help others in the future.

Re: Unable to export to Excel using Office 365 using Account Right 2018

Hi @Cressida

What happens when you try to export it? Does it throw any error messages?

Specific details can help us identify the problem.

Hi Hayden, no no error message, I can see the excel icon but it is faint, not like the other options like PDF where I can click on it and it exports

Re: Unable to export to Excel using Office 365 using Account Right 2018

Hi @Cressida

Sounds like AccountRight can't find Excel on the computer, could you confirm which version was installed? IE: 32-bit or 64-bit.

Only 32-bit installations of office will interface with AccountRight, see: AccountRight System Requirements

Here's a fairly good KB that contains instructions for finding this out: How can I tell whether I'm running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Microsoft Office?

Re: Unable to export to Excel using Office 365 using Account Right 2018

Thanks Hayden I am running 32 bit so that is not the problem, I think it might be my Bitdefender software as I can see that it has blocked excel in MYOB am working with them on it and have marked files as safe but it is still not working.....

Re: Unable to export to Excel using Office 365 using Account Right 2018

Hi @Cressida

Thanks for clarifying this, considering it's definitely 32-bit AccountRight should be able to find the Excel Interop Assemblies.

What I'd be doing is effectively "re-setting" the connections to see if we can get them to talk to each other. Here are some steps that have worked for others in the past:

1. Repairing the .NET Framework:

Windows 7: can have a full reinstall, see: Repair install of .NET Framework

Windows 8/10: is integrated and needs to be repaired: .NET Framework Repair Tool

This can rebuild the relationship between AccountRight and the Excel Interop assembly.

2. Reinstall or Online Repair of Office:

See the Microsoft Article: Repair an Office application

After repairing/reinstalling .NET we can make sure the relationship is completely rebuild by running through this. Make sure it is an Online Repair if possible as this can re-download the relevant files and make sure we're taking no chances.

3. Reinstall AccountRight:

If the .NET framework repair did not assist then repairing AccountRight might be able to reset the relationship with how AccountRight can find the Excel Interop Assembly. You can reinstall AccountRight by re-downloading it from: www.myob.com/downloads

This note is for others finding this thread with the same problem: AccountRight is 32-bit software and can only work with 32-bit editions of Microsoft Office, please check that you are using 32-bit office before continuing on the steps. If you are unsure with some of these steps, I recommend speaking with an IT Specialist to assist.

I've also seen permissions interfere with this, running AccountRight as Administrator has also solved this problem for other Users. If you right click your Desktop icon for AccountRight and choose to Run as Administrator (Assuming you're not on a Domain environment), this can work.

Let us know how you go.
