Inability to copy autobuilds in MYOB Accountright - or export or display autobuilds

Other people have mentioned these problems and had no positive response, but  this is actually a VERY serious problem and, while copying was lacking in MYOB Premier 11 (which we OWNED outright), we could sort of live with it, because we could export autobuilds.  MYOB Accountright now cost us over $1000 a year for a slower product (cloud Based), which has a LOT of needlessly stupid bugs or issues which should have been fixed at the outset.  Creating an autobuild, which used to take 10 minutes, now takes over an hour and is impossible to check because Accountright re-sorts the information making it impossible to cross reference what was entered!

It is not acceptable that we pay more for lesser services we have been forced to adopt by the Australian Government and ATO demanding software which satisfies their Payroll Tax requirements.  My company's productivity has dropped through the floor since being forced to adopt Accountright.  Xero is no better with NO phone support and from what I can gather no effective inventory or strock control procedures either, so small business is left with no options, increased costs and a huge impediment to maximising productivity.

Yesterday I spent one hour on hold on the phone waiting for MYOB support then three hours on the phone trying to get help to export autobuilds from Accountright.  While the individual operator was as helpful as she could be, the package is clearly deficient and does not deliver not only the functionality it promises, but doesn't even deliver what Premier 11 did - in a blink!  This morning  I opened an old data file with MYOB Premier 11 and within two MINUTES I had an EXCEL spreadsheet with  EVERY autobuild from the date of the last opening - and useable.  Because Accountright CANNOT - or does not - do this, despite their being buttons which are supposed to do exactly that, my company does not have ACCESS to every new autobuild entered into the MYOB database since we were forced to changeover to Accountright.

If Government forces change upon us, it is encumbent that  it also demand functional software/programs which do not impose huge productivity losses on business.

If software providers are going to charge huge, on-going fees, then their software MUST work properly!  IMHO, MYOB Account ight does nto deliver what it promises and is 'not fit for service'.  It is encumbent on MYOB to fix the problems and bugs - poste-haste.  Business owners cannot afford to waste 4 hours trying to solve immediate and unnecessary problems trying to get support - and still have no solution.

Re: Auto-buil items report problem

I am trying to run an Inventory Items Auto-Build Items report but keep getting "There's no information to display. Try changing the filters and then run the report."

I was able to run this before the updates, but can't get it to work at the moment.

I was hoping someone could help with the issue.

I am online to Vrenda at MYOB support and she has indicated there are a lot of erros in teh script she ahs run.  She is escalating to problem, but my concern is that the MYOB team has been aware of this bug siunce Jay posted - and heaven knows how many otehr people.  Account right is so full of bugs compared to Premier 11 - which we OWNED, but Government policy forced us to upgrade to a slo, cloud-based product full of bugs for which we have top pay #1200 a YEAR!  INHO it is not fit for purpose and we need compensation for the enless hours of stress in tryign to do things we used to do easily, but whcih can no longer be done in this vesion!  Examples:

If I enter an autbuild, it gets resortd into a nonsensical order when I open it again;

I can't COPY an autobuild and then add and remove items to quickly and easily create a new autobuild;

If I enter a new sale as an invoive, if I checge the adress details and then make ti a quote - ALL the address details get LOST!

I don't use MYOB much but my partner says creating an autobuild in Premiere 11 which toiok 10 minutes (and didn't have the copy feature either) has now become a task which takes over an HOUR!

Re: Inability to copy autobuilds in MYOB Accountright - or export or display autobuilds

Hi @Frank_G

The Autobuild functionality in AccountRight is one of the more labour intensive functionality of the product. This is due to the fact that it does need to look at multiple records, obtain values for those records and then generate a transaction off those values. The complex the autobuild item i.e. the more items involved and also the number of the autobuild items in the one transaction the large potential effect on those processes used by the system.

From a development point of view, with the release of AccountRight 2020.2 we moved across to a newer database version that does allow for more advanced processes to be implemented. Changes already implemented have been targetted for clients with large company files and/or complete more advanced processes. More development work is planned to improve the workflow and performance of the product.  So if you haven't upgraded to AccountRight 2020.2. we do recommend that you do to take advantages of those back-end changes. In saying that, the AccountRight 2020.2 version will never be as quick as the older AccountRight Classic range, which was designed for when computers had significantly slower response times.

You also mentioned the exporting of autobuild records. AccountRight 2020.2 offers the Auto-Build Items report (Reports>>Inventory>>Items). This particular report will show the individual items that make up an autobuild. You can export this report using the Report menu (next to Filters) and selecting Export.

In terms of exporting out the raw transactions, an auto-build item transaction is an inventory adjustment transaction (just with a different name). As such you could look at exporting out those transactions via the File>>Import/Export Assistant>>Export Data>>Inventory Adjustments.

Kind regards,
Steven

Re: Inability to copy autobuilds in MYOB Accountright - or export or display autobuilds

Hi Steven,

I regret to inform you that the reports export or display function in MYOB 2020.2 does NOT find anything to display.  Frank (it’s Tony here now) has requested support four times since implementing AccountRight and had zero satisfaction on any issue – the support is terrible and takes forever to get though.

In the issue mentioned here, which I initiated, I spent hours on the problem with your support team to no avail AND another hour or so with our programmer, who knows a lot more than I do, exploring what your support team recommended.  We now think there is some switch IN MYOB 2020.2 which has not been set which prevents data being displayed or found.

What is the database behind MYOB – SQL?  I would like to make a suggestion.  The lack of a ‘copy autobuild function’  function within MYOB has been a glaring omission since its inception – and we have been using it since the early 2000’s.  IF EXPORT works, it is trivial to get the information required into EXCEL and create a NEW autobuild for new products.  If the file structure remains identical with a NEW product name exactly matching a product created in MYOB, then importing the new product back into MYOB should also be trivial into a new table and linking it to that new product.  In my experience, programmers always tend to stay within their proprietary software and cause enormous headaches for themselves AND a MASSIVE loss of productivity for their customers.  99% of your customers would be very familiar with Excel and be able to do what we want in seconds if you just put in the ‘hooks’ to allow it  - with minimal programming!

As I said in I my initial complaint:  our productivity has been hampered by the lack of a copy function for nearly two decades.  God knows what the overall cost to your users is through such a glaringly obvious omission, but for my company it probably costs me 1.5 hours work where it should take a couple of minutes  -and we don’t have the resources for that so everything gets behind.

Best regards,

Re: Inability to copy autobuilds in MYOB Accountright - or export or display autobuilds

Hi @Frank_G

When you say that the reports export or display function in AccountRight 2020.2 doesn't find anything to display, are you encountering the following message when running that Auto-Build Items report?

Attachment.PNG

If that is case, would you mind confirming the following information as we may have a script that we can run over that company file for you to help mitigate that issue:

  • Where the company file is stored i.e. online or local
  • What the LAST FOUR DIGITS of the serial number is - Setup>>Company Information
  • What is the company file ID - Help>>About AccountRight

Kind regards,
Steven
