Employee received another employees super plus his own

Not sure how this was even possible, but my client accidentally had two employees with the same super details. So one employee received both super contributions. This has been going on for a few months.

I thought MYOB would have rejected the super payment?

Luckily they are related and no issues resolving it.

But how would I record this? I need to pay super to the employee who didnt recerived his and then not pay super to the other employee till he has "worked off " the overpayment. If I reverse the payments how would I show the overpayment to the second employee?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: Employee received another employees super plus his own

Hi @scotzam

For the employee who is overpaid, in terms of correcting previously incorrect superannuation, it depends on whether the super has been overpaid for just the current calendar month or previous months as well. I would recommend taking a look at Help Article: Checking and adjusting superannuation calculations which outlines the process for both the calendar month and previous months. That said, your process of adjusting the next payruns is correct.

For the underpaid employee, you will still look at the same help article and create a void payrun to enter the underpaid super amount for him against his payrun. Once that is done, his super to be payable will appear in the Pay Liabilities window and you can record it there if you do not want the money to be withdrawn again. This will show that the super has been paid correcty.

Let me know if you have further questions and I'll be happy to assist.

Kind regards,
Komal

Re: Employee received another employees super plus his own

Hi,

The issue with that fix is it will show the amounts of super paid to each employee incorrectly. This had happened over about 5 months.

As in MYOB currently shows

David earned and receceived $5000 super

Mark earned and receceived $5000 super

But the reality is

David  receceived $10000 super

Mark receceived $0 super

The suggested fix would end up showing Mark received $10000 super when it would only be $5000 and I dont know how I could enter a negative super for David .

So the main issue is the MYOB does not show any error so make it hard to fix as there is no "error " to reverse.

Thanks

Pauline

Thanks
